On Saturday the residents of El Daraja El Talta district in Khartoum took to the streets in protest against the selling of a playground in the neighbourhood.
“The El Sahra football team's playground has been sold to a member of the National Congress Party, who wants to transform it into a commercial feast hall,” the spokesman for the Resistance Committee, Nadir Osman El Sayed told Radio Dabanga.
“We will only stop our protest when the playground is registered on the name of the football team, and the registration certificate is handed to El Sahra.”
El Sayed described the selling of the playground as “flagrant”. The playground has been “a social and sport outlet for more than 50 years, besides being a place for people to perform Eid prayers”.
