The attorney general of El Obeid, capital of North Kordofan, has withdrawn the case against the president of the Sudanese Congress Party (SCP), Ibrahim El Sheikh.
Speaking to Radio Dabanga on Monday afternoon, Dr Fateh El Sayed, vice-president of the SCP reported that the prosecutor has withdrawn the case file from El Obeid court.
“The decision to withdraw the case came after the defence team had submitted documents concerning the nature of the accusations to the court. The judge would consider them, before the scheduled court session of 24 September would commence.”
El Sayed added that the prosecutor had withdrawn the file itself before. “Despite the withdrawal of the case now, we have not received any news from the Ministry of Justice about the release of our SCP president.”
“The SCP does not have any confidence in the implementation of President Omar Al Bashir’s decision to release El Sheikh, as announced by Thabo Mbeki on Wednesday. We will only change our opinion if he has been definitely discharged from custody.”
