KHARTOUM, May 6, 2005 (MENA) -- Egyptian Minister of Electricity Hassan Younis left Khartoum at dawn Friday back to Cairo winding up a three-day visit to the Sudanese capital where he held talks with his Sudanese counterpart Joseph Malwal on carrying out a cooperation protocol in the field of electricity and power linkage.

Younis told MENA that he inaugurated a power transformer plant in Khartoum, set up through cooperation by a private Egyptian company with the Sudanese side.

A plant to produce electric wire poles and low-voltage cables within the framework of the cooperation protocol too, said Younis.

The Egyptian official invited his Sudanese and Ethiopian counterparts for talks in Cairo in mid-June to discuss power linkage between the three countries.

On cooperation in setting up power stations in Sudan, he said a number of Egyptian companies have established 13 power stations, in addition to a study under-way to build stations in three cities in south Sudan recently visited by an Egyptian delegation
