2) Welcoming remarks by: Mr. Les Lasky – President of Hamilton Jewish Federation

Mr. Javid Mirza – President of Hamilton Muslim Association

3) Introduction of Invited Clergy

4) “Darfur Destroyed” – 6 minute video to introduce the topic (from Human Rights Watch)

5) Speakers:

(i) Mr. Mohamed Hassan Haroun - Born in Sudan. Immigrated to Canada in 2002. One of the Founders of Darfur Association of Canada. Vice-president of Darfur Association of Canada.

(ii) Ms. Tragi Mustafa - Born in Sudan. Immigrated to Canada in 2001. Founder of ‘Save Women-Sudan’, an organization to raise women’s awareness about their rights.

Member of Darfur Association of Canada. Elected as Darfur Women Representative in Canada.

(iii) Dr. Norman Epstein - Founder an co-chair of Canadians Against Slavery and Torture in Sudan (CASTS)

(iv) Mr. Hussein Hamdani – Hamilton Lawyer - Member of: (a)‘Ihya’ – (Arabic for to revitalize/to revive) – an organization of devout Muslims who want to see a better world.

(b) SISO – Settlement and Integration Services Organization, which helps settle and integrate newcomers to Hamilton

(c) Roundtable on Security – a roundtable of 15 Canadians across the country working with Deputy Prime Minister Anne McLelland to advise the government on improving Canadian security

7) Special Guest Speaker: Senator Mobina Jaffer


Lawyer. Appointed to the Senate in 2001 as the first East Indian, first Muslim woman, first African. In 2002 she was appointed as the Special Envoy to the Peace Process in Sudan to aid the people of Sudan in the search for peace.
