Release the human rights Lawyer Ali Mahmoud Hassanain
and other detainees or set up a fair trial for them
The Sudanese authorities in
Darfur
harassed interrogated and detained a group of politicians and military personnel including Ali Mahmoud Hassanain (70 year old)- vice president of Unionist Democratic Party, Mubarak Elfadil Elmahdi-
president of the Umma Party Reform & Renewal
, Ibrahim Abdalla Abugroon among others.
The Sudanese government arrested the following Sudanese citizens:
Mohamed Ali Hamid (70 year old and seriously ill) - leader of Council of Dismissed Army Officers. Ahmed Salman Eldoud, Eltaeyb Ahmed Khalid al-Na’em-retired Army brigadier, Abdel Rahman Shamaila Khalifa officer in the SPLA, Abdeljalil Albasha – Umma Party Reform & Renewal General Secretary, Yagoub Yahia – former army officer, Kabbashi Khatir Mohamed Ahmed, tarder, Tawer Osman Tawir, former army officer.
All above detainees were arrested on or soon after
July 14, 2007 and have been severely tortured and ill-treated by the National Intelligence & Security Service and some of them have been denied access to medical care and some are seriously ill. They have been accused of smuggling arms and planning sabotage, to encourage foreign intervention in
Sudan or a coup d’etat.
We are issuing this appeal to urge the Sudanese government to release them or set up a fair trial for them and fully investigate the torture allegations.
