Taha Addresses Agricultural Insurance Conference
Khartoum, March 24 (SUNA) - Vice President of the Republic, Ali Osman Mohamed Taha, has given directives to the concerned departments to prepare more initiatives in the fields of agricultural Takaful (solidarity) and insurance, and to work for expanding the umbrella of Takaful and insurance so as to include all the poor and weak categories. This came when Taha addressed the inaugural sitting of the Second Agricultural Takaful (solidarity) Conference, which is being held during March 24 - 25 at the Friendship Hall. He said that convocation of the conference coincided with the state's declaration to its resolution to implement the Agricultural Development project. The Vice President praised the role being done by Shikan Company for Insurance and Re-insurance and other companies for the development of the agricultural sector. He affirmed the state's keenness to boost the insurance sector so as to contribute to the enhancement of the economic performance. The Minister of Finance, Dr. Awad Ahmed Al-Jaz, pointed out that allocation of budgets for the Ministries of Agriculture and Animal Resources is among the top priorities of his ministry. Chairman of the conference's steering committee and Chairman of the National Assembly's Agricultural Committee, Prof. Al-Amin Dafaalla, also addressed the opening sitting, stressing the importance of the agricultural insurance in the overall economic process in Sudan, in a view that 80% of the population in the country depend on agriculture. The conference discusses six working papers which focus on the challenges facing agriculture and agricultural insurance in the country. MF/MO
