Sudan Holds Unprecedented Military Maneuvers
The Sudanese army last week launched military exercises of an unprecedented scope in the As Samaliya region, northwest of the capital Khartoum.
Sources in the capital said that this was a rehearsal for what would happen if the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant against Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir.
Military spokesman Lt.-Col. Abd Al-Sami' Hajj Ahmed said that the exercises had no connection to the prosecution against Bashir.
Defense Minister Abd Al-Rahim Muhammad Hussein stated that the Sudanese army would continue to acquire fighter planes and to arm itself.
