DAKAR, July 19 (Xinhua) -- Senegalese President Abdoulaye Wade has expressed "dismay" following the accusations that have been filed against his Sudanese counterpart Omar el-Bashir by the International Criminal Court (ICC), according to official sources.
"I am appalled by what is happening to the Sudanese president," the often outspoken President Wade was quoted as saying by the official Senegalese News Agency on Friday.
"But, I am not surprised since I have often discussed this possibility with him and (U.S.) President (George W.) Bush has always proclaimed loud and clear that for the United States that Bashir has committed genocide in Darfur," said President Wade.
On Monday, ICC prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo moved to formally accuse President el-Bashir, against whom he claims that an arrest warrant should be issued, of seeking "to put an end to the history of native peoples" living in civil war-hit western Sudanese province of Darfur.
According to President Wade, if the ICC maintains its prosecutions against the Sudanese President, the move could lead to "an aggravation and an indescribable chaos" in this vast region that is already in the grips of one of the worst ever humanitarian crises.
"I decided to get involved to help find a solution to end the crisis because if the prosecution against President Bashir is maintained, the situation in Darfur could experience an aggravation and an indescribable amount chaos," said the Senegalese head of state without elaborating any further.
