JEM: Farcical Arab League Stance on Indictment of Albashir
July 20st 2008: After a hasty emergency meeting, the Arab League came out with rejection of the ICC indictment of Albashir and has vowed to find a legal alternative to the ICC’s verdict.
This stance is not surprising as the Arab League has always acted a club for dictators steeped in ethnic hatred against the beleaguered
Darfur people.
Despite untold atrocities committed by Albashir against Darfur people, condemned by the whole world, the Arab League has been a consistent ally defending GoS at all venues and throughout the conflict
:
1.
The declared position of the Arab League shamefully ignores the plight of the victims, many of who have mistakenly put too much trust on the League.
2.
The League’s attempt to rely on Sudanese justice system as a substitute for the ICC court is both hypocritical and naïve.
Sudan’s legal system cannot deal with genocides, war crimes and crimes against humanity, particularly when these are committed by the upper echelon of the state.
3.
Provision of political and diplomatic defence for the genocidaires of
Khartoum makes the Arab League an accomplice in these heinous crimes.
4.
The Arab League has demonstrated that it is flawed that consistently fails the test of justice, respect of human rights and commitment to international conventions.
5.
Once again, JEM appeals to the League to review its position and heed to voice of sense and justice.
JEM reminds the League that
Darfur people have deep historical and cultural links with the Arab world that should not be squandered by callous leadership of the Arab League.
