first of all: Ramadan Kareem..wa kullo sana wa into taybeen

I have to apology for writing in English.. I have no arabic windows, and I had to cut words one by one (from other posts) to make the title!!!

As you all know, there is no much "feeling" of Ramadan here!! I mean because the majority are not muslim nd hence not fasting, you don't get the feeling of Ramadan as you do in Sudan....

I wonder if the Board members in London or other part of UK used to organize social gatherings in Ramadan..because I am really new to the city.....

I would like here to suggest that If we can organize some sort of "joint Iftar" in Ramadan, which could assemble all borad members and all other Sudanese who are interested during Ramadan, which could end by a nice social gatherings thereafter..

I would like to hear from Borad members in UK and London .. any suggestions? P

Excellent. So what is Sudanese food like? Apparently they were occupied by the Turks, among others, for quite a long time so there is a strong Ottoman influence. But their main culinary turn is the peanut. They do wonders with it. I started with a meat and peanut soup, quite spicy, which was novel (to me) and good. My friend had a sort of peanut porrige which was also very tasty together with a mixture of cabbage and - yes - peanuts which shouldn't have worked as a combination but did. It's a different and very more-ish taste. Our mains appeared to be peanut free but they could have been there in the marinades. My main was a chicken kebab and salad and this had a definite middle eastern feel - you can see the Turkish influence - but lightly spiced and with a fresh and tangy overtone. My friend's was lamb which had been marinated in a spicy sauce and which was also delicious. These were accompanied by a fine rice dish. We finished off with Sudanese coffee which comes in a little brown earthenware pot shaped like a miniature lime kiln and which had cardomom in it, which I love, so I was very happy. Clientele are mostly young and fairly noisy with a sprinkling of hoorays but generally well behaved, giving a buzzy friendly atmosphere. Service is a bit hit and miss but veering towards the good. Prices are around £4 for starters and £11 for mains. And they scored maximum points when we asked for water by actually offering tap water without being prompted. Incredible. Harry

Iam askign because life is really harsh and sometimes you dont met anyone to speak arabic with for days.. or weeks!!

so they should be someway to meet Sudanese people here...

Welcome to London and this is to wish you a pleasant stay
, by the way there is a big number of Sudanese and Sudanese families in the city. There are also a number of Sudanese voluntary and other organisations that usually organise events in the city. So hopefully you will not feel very home-sick here, but also take advantage of the various museums, gallerys, etc. in the city if you have the time.

members of the Board have organised a few gatherings in a restaurant in London and I think it would be a good idea to organise an Iftar if time allows.

شكرا على مداخلتك و تثنية فكرة لقاء بورداب لندن (وخارجها لمن اراد المشاركة)

مطعم ماندولا لم اسمع به قبل عمل هذا البوست.. لكن اثناء الكتابة خطرت لي الفكرة ومن خلال البحث عن مطاعم سودانية في لندن لم اجد الا هذا المطعم..يعنى حقيقة اناماعندي تفضيل لمكان معين لاني جديد لنج !! لكن اذا كان مطعم ماندولا مكان جيد ومكن يسع جميع الناس فلا مانع....
ساتصل بك اخي نقد لكن لمعلومية الجميع ساحاول تلخيص الفكرة في :

1- اقتراح للم شمل السودانين في لندن في احدى امسيات رمضان..
2- اذا وافق الجميع ان يكون افطار فلابد ان يقوم في نهايةالاسبوع.. او لو حب البعض اقامته في نص الاسبوع >> قبل تغير التوقيت (اخر اكتوبر)

3- اقترح شخصيا ان يكون عطلة نهايةالاسبوع ليتسنى للجميع المشاركة.. وكذلك المقيمين (والمقيمات >> عشان ناس الجندر ما يزعلو) خارج لندن.. يعني 23 او 30 اكتوبر .. او 6 نوفمبر

Despite this one have to admit that most of the events I attended which was orgainzed by Sudanese either at home or abroad are of (socio-abdominal nature) rather than only social, which make it real good

لا شكر على واجب و سعيدة انك تستطيع الكتابة بالعربى الان (واجهتنى نفس المشكلة حين انضممت للمنبر و لم يكن لدى كى بورد عربى حينها). بالنسبة للعمل الطوعى و المنظمات الطوعية السودانية فى بريطانيا لدى خلفية حولهاو تعاون مع بعضها لكن لم اقم بدراسة منهجية لها(و هناك حاجة لدراسة كهذه تتناول الايجابيات و السلبيات بغرض التعلم من الاخطاء و الاستفادة من الجوانب الايجابية). شكرا لمبادرتك الطيبة و نتمنى نشوفك قريب.
