محامي سامي الحاج يتحدث لقناة الجزيرة

سيتحدث محامي حقوق الانسان البريطاني كليف ستافورد سميث في مؤتمر صحفي بقناة الجزيرة عن الحالة الراهنة للمصورالصحفي السوداني سامي الحاج وسجين الحرب حاليا والمعتقل كعدو مقاتل في القاعدة البحرية الامريكية في خليج غونتانامو منذ اربع سنوات مضت دون محاكمة.
وعندما زار الحاج في عام 2005 ، قال سميث" تم ضربه ، ولديه جرح كبير في وجهه ، وتم التحرش به (......) ، وتم استجوابه بقسوة 130 مرة تقريبا ، واخر ما رأيته كان على وشك ان يعيد الدخول في اضراب عن الطعام لتأكيدحقوق الانسان الاساسية"
وفي بيان سابق ، قال سميث " انه برئ تماما ، وحول الى ارهابي ، ، والسبب لمعاملته على هذا النحو ، لانه صحفي من قناة الجزيرة ، الامريكيون حاولوا أن يحولوه الى مخبر بهدف أن يقول أن الجزيرة على صلة بالقاعدة ، غونتانامو كارثة علاقات عامة ، وهو اكثر رموز النفاق في العالم ، وهكذا ، فمن المدهش هو كيف بددت الولايات المتحدة الشعور الودي تجاهها بعد هجمات 11 سبتمبر " . تحتاج الولايات المتحدة ات تستيقظ على حقيقة ان اكثر الاجراءات فعالية لمكافحة الارهاب هي التأكيد على حقوق الانسان مثل حرية الصحافة بدلا من تمكيم هذه الحريات باتهام شبكات الاعلام التي تختلف معها " واضاف سميث " عند اسره في ديسمبر 2001 في باكستان كان الحاج في طريق عودته الى افغانستان لتغطية مراسم تنصيب الحكومة الجديدة كمصور صحفي لقناة الجزيرة ، حيث طلب في 22 سبتمبر تغطية النزاع في افغانستان التي سبق ان عاد منها بسلام .

DOHA: British human rights lawyer Clive Stafford Smith, who ‎represents Sami Al Hajj, a citizen of Sudan and former journalist ‎with Al Jazeera, and now a prisoner of war being held as an ‎‎"enemy combatant" in the American naval base at Guantanamo ‎Bay for the past four years without trial will speak at a press ‎conference at Al Jazeera International. During the press meet ‎Smith will give an update on Hajj’s present condition. Smith, when ‎he visited Al Hajj in 2005, had said: "He has been beaten, he had a ‎huge scar on his face, he has been sexually assaulted and has ‎been interrogated roughly 130 times — I last saw him just as he ‎was about to re-enter the hunger strike, just to assert basic human ‎rights". In a previous statement, Smith said: "He is completely ‎innocent. He is about as much of a terrorist as my granddad. The ‎only reason he has been treated like this is because he is an Al ‎Jazeera journalist. The Americans have tried to make him an ‎informant with the goal of getting him to say that Al Jazeera is ‎linked to Al Qaeda." "Guantanamo is a public relations disaster. It ‎is one of the most iconic symbols of hypocrisy in the world. It is just ‎incredible how the US has squandered all the goodwill it had after ‎the September 11 attacks" the lawyer said. "The US needs to ‎wake up to the fact that the most effective counter-terrorism ‎measure is the enforcement of human rights such as the freedom ‎of the press, rather than attempting to muzzle such freedoms by ‎persecuting members of media networks that it disagrees with," he ‎added. At the time of his capture in Pakistan, in December 2001, ‎Al Hajj was on his way back to Afghanistan to cover the ‎inauguration of the new government, as a cameraman for Al ‎Jazeera. On September 22, 2001, less than two weeks after the ‎September 11 attacks, Al Hajj was asked to cover the conflict in ‎Afghanistan from which he returned safely.‎
