YOUNG TURKS What the media is barely telling you about the historic and unprecedented civilian uprising across Turkey
June 3, 2013 The mainstream media is barely covering this story, but it is of utmost importance. What began as a quiet protest last week in Taksim Square against the razing of one of the last green parks in Istanbul turned horribly violent as police fired tear gas and aimed water cannons against peaceful protestors. One death and a number of blindings were reported.
What followed was a nationwide uprising against the anti-democratic rule of Turkey’s Prime Minister Erdogan as police brutality became a symbol and rallying point against an increasingly unpopular government. This regime has, bit by bit, stripped away the rights and liberties of its people. Despite promising respect for democratic principles, Erdogan has held a tight grip on media and clamped down on the opposition. During the protests over the past five days, state-run media instead ran story after story on Miss Turkey and “the world’s ugliest cat.”
Social media was said to have been the galvanizing force behind the uprisings in places like Iran and Egypt, and so it is no surprise that the Turkish government is now seeking to silence platforms such as Facebook and Twitter. After protests began, the authorities severed access to these popular social media sites, hoping that word of what had transpired would not get out. Even the Western media, which appears to have fallen well short of its obligation to report the truth, remains curiously silent, as if dependent on social media to gauge newsworthiness
I hope to help turn the tables a bit here. This video, which I hope you’ll share, was made by a “Young Turk” named Gosku Eroglu. It hopes to convey to the world the spirit of the Turkish people as they strive to regain the freedoms slowly being stripped away, including the right to assembly and to a free media. We indeed “hear the people sing” in Turkey. While any political uprising carries with it complex issues, and any “people’s revolution” could have various unknown factions involved, as we’ve seen in other regions and countries, one thing remains clear: The use of violent suppression can only lead to greater unrest and instability. So to Prime Minister Erdogan, I say this: The world is watching. We call upon your government to stop the violence and engage in peaceful dialogue with the Turkish people.

للربيع التركي نكهة مختلفة,
تحكي سيرة من التاريخ, قوامها توحيد القلب والشعور تجاه تركيا الحديثة. وتعزيز إتساقها مع الحضارة الإنسانية وتماهيها في روح العصر.
وربما أذنت خذلانات الربيع العربي بتعجيل الإنتفاضة التركية, لينصبوا الإشارة الأشد أثرا ومعنى... في رحلة شعوب المنطقة من أجل الحرية.
إزدلاف الموضوع التركي من إحتجاج على إحتمال تحويل حديقة إلى مول, إلى كل تلك الجموع التي فتحت صفحة محاسبة الفيلق الإسلامي التركي, إلى الإعمال الوحشي للسلطة في فض مجاميع المحتجين. كلها تعبر عن تراكم تاريخي كان لا بد وأن يتحول إلى حراك نوعي, وكما تعبر عنه الأحداث اليوم. فثمة دوائر سوف تنداح في ذلكم الخضم, وربما يعتلي أجندة السياسة التركية, موضوعة تسكين ثقافة وأجندة إسلامية, في مرتكزات دولة علمانية. هل هذا أمر موعود بالفلاح؟ أم أن ليس في الإمكان الجمع بين مكونات إسلامية وأخرى غير.
فلننظر لمجرى الأحداث التركية بعين فاحصة, فما يخصهم ... يهمنا كذلك.
عزيزي حيدر دخول النقابات في الخط اليوم ينبئ بتوسع الاحتجاج و ارتفاع سقفه. اوردغان يواجه مارد ظل يستهين به طويلا و هو الحريات الشخصية و العامة و حرية التعبير التي انتقص منها رويدا رويدا عبر الزمن و بهدؤ حتى تنبه له الناس مؤخرا من خلال اشجار ميدان تقسيم و لازال كلام كثير حول تركيا تحياتي

نعم ... ثروت,
فهذا تغريبا خلاصة رأي الكثير من المعلقين ومتابعي أحداث تركيا, بل إستقر رأيهم على أن أردوقان يتمثل بالنقطة والحرف والسطر سياسة ديكتاتورية الأغلبية, إعتمادا على الفوز الإنتخابي, ومع أن مثل هذا الفوز هو جوهر العملية الديمقراطية, لكن للديمقراطية واجبات أخر لا تقل أهمية عن فوز الأغلبية. مثل حماية الأقليات, والإستماع لرأيها وإحترامه غض النظر عن الإتفاق أو الإختلاف معه. وكما قلت فللحريات الشخصية والعامة وحرية التعبير وزنها الدستوري, الذي يحاول دعاة الإسلام السياسي في تركيا, قمطه بإسم فوزهم بالسلطة. لينفذوا أكبر قدر ممكن من مقررهم الفكري الذي يخصهم كتنظيم, وليس بالضرورة أن يخص تركيا كدولة وشعب.
يبدو أن التعايش المشترك بين الإسلام السياسي وبين الديمقراطية الإنتخابية, يواجه اليوم مأزقا في تركيا.

حقيقة. و حقيقة انه ليس في تركيا وحدها بل في نظام ديمقراطي يتصحب معه شكل من اشكال الحراك الديني السياسي الاسلام السياسي مصادم لجذر الديمقاطرية نفسها مصادم للحريات الدستورية و سيادة القانون و التسامح اردوغان مثل القنوشي و مرسي و الترابي يتعامل مع الديمقراطية كإجراء و مكاكنيكية ذات معادلة اغلبية و اقلية و ربما كان هذا واضح في ردة فعله تجاه الاحتجاج الذي بدأ صغيرا و ذو سقف مطلبي محدود جدا فسرعان ما اشار للمؤامرة التي وراها حزب الشعب الجمهوري و قال: انهم فشلوا في منازلته في صناديق الاقتراع و هزموا! هنا بالضبط يعبر عن فهمه الانتهازي للديمقراطية في شكل اصوات و يغفل جانبها الجوهري في الحقوق و الحريات بغض النظر عن نتيجة الصناديق
تحجيم الصحافة و الصحفين حيث تركيا من اسوا الدول التي يعاني منها الصحفيين السجون التضيق على المعارضة و اخراص الاصوات و احتكار التلفيزيون الحكومي تصريحه حول التواصل الاجتماعي و وصفه لتويتر بانه مفسد للمجتمع محاولات التنصنل من العلمانية بعيدا عن اعين الناس و العلمانية هي الوعاء الحامل للديمقراطية بكل تاكيد ثم سعيه للتغيير الدستور لتتركز السلطات في يد رئيس الجمهورية و التي ينوى الترشح لها لينفرد بالسيادة و التنفيذ و تركيز السلطات
اوردغان اسلامي اتت به اخطأ السياسية التركية و سيما تلك اليمينية التي اخلت مقعدعا شاغرا لحزبه و اشنغلت بالعراك بين احزابها و لعل يتحملها تانسو شلير و مسعود يلماز رؤساء الوزراء السابقين و شجارهما الغير عقلاني في تسعينيات القرن المنصرم بل و رفضهما دمج الحزبان و قد تعالت كثير من الاصوات بهذا المطلب بل اصبح يطلق البعض اسم حزب الطريق الام تعبيرا عن رغبة ملحة في التوحيد السياسي علمنا بان حزباهما الطريق القويم و الام لا يوجد بينها فارق ايدلوجي فكلاهما محافظين يمينيين فأستغل الحزب الاسلامي ذو الاسماء المتعددة هذا التنازل الطوعي من الخانة السياسية جراء المشادات ليملأوها و يجرف معظم ارضيتها الاجتماعية
Images of the protests have put off tourists planning to travel to Turkey Spooked by the unfolding anti-government protests across major cities in Turkey, thousands of foreign businessmen and women invited to attend a medical conference in Istanbul this month cancelled at the last minute.
Eda Ozden, an employee at a travel agency that organises events for Fortune 500 companies, said on top of the recent cancellations for the medical event, clients have called seeking advice on what to do about events booked in two years' time.
Travel agent Eda Ozden is worried about repercussions across the services industry "That's very bad. The impact is wide - from hotels, bus and taxi companies, restaurants," she told the BBC.
"Tourism so far has only taken a hit in the short run. But... June being the highest season for tourists in Turkey, the industry is afraid. This has happened previously with 9/11, the 2003 Istanbul bombings and the 1999 earthquake. It took until 2005 for our companies to become profitable again."
While the impact of the demonstrations on the economy appears to be limited to a part of the tourism industry for now, even a small bump can be magnified in a country where much of the economy hinges on the services sector.
It makes up 63% of the country's GDP. Turkey is the sixth most popular destination in the world, having attracted 31 million tourists in 2011 and valuing the industry at $30bn.
"It doesn't help that there are photos [in the media] showing the smoke-filled lobby of the InterContinental," said Ms Ozden, adding that the tourism industry was trying to assuage fears by promoting the protests as a healthy symptom of a working democracy.

Turkish businesses are nervous, uncertain whether the protests are causing just a blip in an otherwise stellar economic performance or putting them on the cusp of a damaging decline.
Jitters were particularly felt in Turkey's stock market, which plunged by more than 10% on Monday - its sharpest drop in 10 years - as investors, many of them foreign, started to pull their money out of the country.
Stocks continued their descent on Thursday after Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he would go ahead and root up Gezi Park and replace it with a shopping mall - a plan that had originally sparked the unrest.
Turkey's economic growth has skyrocketed since the early 2000s - around the same time Mr Erdogan's Justice and Development Party (AKP) assumed power - after implementing austerity measures advised by the International Monetary Fund. The 1990s had been spent in gloomy stagnation.

White-collar office employees joined the protests after work While a politically conservative party, the AKP championed a more liberal view of the economy, opening it up to global financial markets and privatising state assets - moves that earned strong supporters in the business community.

Tolga Esin Technology entrepreneur In 2011, while most Western economies were feeling the effects of the financial crisis, Turkey's growth rate was 8.5%, helped by reforms - for example, relaxing barriers for start-ups and companies, and removing travel visas for Russian citizens to boost tourism.
Growth declined sharply last year to 2.5% as the global economy stalled, but the IMF expected the situation to improve "barring new external shocks".
Foreign companies were lured by the perceived political stability under Mr Erdogan's decade-long rule: Microsoft, Coca-Cola, McKinsey, Boston Consulting Group and clinical research groups set up regional headquarters in Istanbul.
The US drugs company Pfizer last month announced it was moving its European Union headquarters from Brussels to Istanbul.
It also helped that credit rating agencies upgraded their ratings on Turkey's sovereign debt - Fitch gave it investment grade last November for the first time in 19 years.
But much of the growth in the past decade has masked a fragility - a dependency on external debt, which, at a moment of crisis can leave a country dangerously exposed to market volatility and the whims of investors. Short-term investment from abroad has surged in recent years, while long-term investment has fallen.
