Speakers

Zeinab Blandia, Director, Ru’ya, (Vision) organization. is the founder and director of Ruya, or “Vision,” an organization based both in Kadugli in the south and Omdurman in the north, where she trains and cultivates fellow “women peace ambassadors.” Zeinab was the recipient of the 2009 Peace Maker Award from the Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice Studies at San Diego University. She holds an MA in Gender and Development from the Ahfad University for Women. Zeinab was uprooted from her native Nuba Mountains twice because of conflict in the area.

Sarah Rial, recipient of the 2010 Eleanor Roosevelt Human Rights Award, is a native of South Sudan, and for years has directed My Sister’s Keeper’s programs on girls’ education in South Sudan MSK’s Sisterhood for Peace initiative. Previously, Sarah worked for a number of organizations in the United States and has held leadership positions within community organizations in Sudan and in the US. She holds a BSc. Degree in Statistics and Demography from Juba University, Sudan, an MA in Political Science – Professional Development from American University in Cairo, Egypt.

Nada Ali, Visiting Assistant Professor in International Development and Social Change at Clark University, is the founder of Building Bridges. Her research focuses on conflict, peace-building and post-conflict reconstruction in Africa, intersectionality, identity and gendered post-colonial politics in the Middle East and Africa, and on women’s movements and human rights, especially in conflict and refugee settings and in settings where HIV is prevalent. Nada has worked for a number of international and regional organizations and has consulted with various organizations and agencies, including the UNDP, UNFPA, USIP, USAID, OSI and ICRW.
