Professor Michael Kevane Chair, Department of Economics Santa Clara University, California His interests include, Sudan, Burkina Faso, libraries for children in rural areas of Africa. Professor Kebane wrote many articles about Sudan, made a short video on Darfur, and established a website Understandingsudan.org in collaboration with Center for African studies at the University of California Berkeley.

Dr. Abdul-Magid Bob Dr. Bob completed his graduate and postgraduate studies in East Germany. He spent research periods at the University of Durham in UK as well as Berkeley and Stanford in the USA. Dr. Bob worked for thirteen years in Juba University in Southern Sudan and specialized in the contemporary political history of Sudan as well the evolution of political and armed organizations in Southern Sudan. He lectured and wrote extensively on issues of conflict and peace in Sudan, had met with and interviewed historical and prominent leaders including the late Dr. Garang De Mabior. His latest book published in Arabic in 2009 titled Southern Sudan, Debate of Unity and cession, focusing on the dynamics of the relation between North and South

Lt. Col. Africano Mande Africano Mande was born in Maridi County, Western Equatoria State in Southern Sudan. He is an active duty Lt. Col. in the Sudan Peopleโs Liberation Army and is currently undertaking a Master Degree in National Security Studies with a focus on Defense Decision Making and Planning at the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey California. In addition to the various Military trainings, Lt. Col. Africano Mande also holds a BA (Hons) in International Relations from the United States International University โ Africa. He attended other trainings to include trainings at the Institute for Security Studies in Pretoria (South Africa), International Institute for Humanitarian Law in San Remo (Italy) and the University of Birmingham (UK). Lt. Col. Africano Mande has served in various field command position, as an officerโs Instructor and as a Head of the Department of Military Planning and Research at the SPLA GHQs, in Juba.

Hamdan Goumaa Mr. Goumaa graduated from the Khartoum University, Sudan, with a Bachelor degree in economics and political science 1979. He obtained a MA from Monterey Institute of International Studies (MIIS) of California in International Negotiations and Conflict Resolution. Now a mid-career professional with more than 16 years of experience in the field of development management. He worked for both international NGOs and the United Nations (UN) in Africa and South East Asia, primarily with programs designed to address the stabilization and integration needs of the refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and demobilized fighters. Mr. Goumaa carried out extensive research work in different contexts, designing, implementing and evaluating micro-credit /finance projects, with focus on development issues, human rights, conflict resolution, and post-conflict stabilization and reconstruction.

The Sudanese American Society in Monterey, California was established in June 2005. Ever since, it has been working hard to strengthen the relationships between its members, through cultural, social, musical and sports activities. The Society also provides special programs to the Sudanese youth so as to keep them connected to their culture and root back home. One of the goals of this society is to educate other people about Sudan, its culture, music, folklore and social life through organizing cultural events such as debates, exhibitions and musical concerts
