ميت هو ذاك الذي يفضّل الأسود والأبيض والنقاط على الحروف بدلا من سرب غامض من الانفعالات الجارفة، تلك التي تجعل العينين تبرقان، وتحوّل التثاؤب ابتسامة، وتعلّم القلب الخفقان أمام جنون المشاعر. ميت هو ذاك الذي لا يقلب الطاولة ولا يسمح لنفسه ولو لمرة واحدة في حياته بالهرب من النصائح المنطقية. ذاك الذي لا يسافر ولا يقرأ ولا يصغي الى الموسيقى، ذاك الذي لا يقبل مساعدة احد ويمضي نهاراته متذمرا من سوء حظه أو من استمرار هطول المطر. ميت هو من يتخلى عن مشروع قبل ان يهم به، ميت من يخشى ان يطرح الأسئلة حول المواضيع التي يجهلها، ومن لا يجيب عندما يُسأل عن أمر يعرفه. ميت ٌ من يجتنب الشغف ولا يجازف باليقين في سبيل اللايقين من اجل ان يطارد احد أحلامه

Limbo is a film about a man living for the city. At the centre of this mockumentary is Issam, an immigrant from Sudan now living in London, who works round the clock as a street sweeper and a security guard. He takes us on a tour of his dull and lonely life and along the way reveals his private passion for the buildings of London.We soon learn that he has his own dream of becoming an architect and has been spending his time developing plans for a radical transformation of London’s skyline. But just as he proudly prepares to show us his portfolio he discovers, to his horror that his cherished drawings are missing. He sets out to find them.

This was a particularly arduous shoot with filming taking place through the night, at the crack of dawn, in smelly waste depots and noisy London streets. Our cast and crew were tireless in their efforts and no one was more dedicated and professional than Issam El Khawad who played the main character, also called Issam. We were all devastated when we found out that Issam died on November 1st 2007 when his motorcycle was hit by a van in central London. The film could not have been made without Issam and his renowned spirit of adventure and lust for life. He was a non-professional actor, with a family to support, working fulltime as a Producer/Translator for AP and Sports News Television. Despite these obligations he jumped at the chance to make a film of this nature. He was never afraid to take risks. He was fearless in his approach to acting, trying anything from repeatedly rummaging through rubbish to running through a London street at five o'clock in the morning, screaming at the top of his lungs. He also worked hard to try to better the lives of others. When we first met he had just come from a job translating in Darfur. He was also a leading activist in the campaign against female genital mutilation. He was a loving and much-loved man. At his funeral in Sudan over 2000 mourners attended. His loss has deeply saddens all who knew him. We would like to dedicate this film to Issam and his family. He is survived by his wife, Joy and three children, Sara, Ziyad and Sami who was born shortly after filming was completed.

يا دوما انا بعرف عصام الخواض الحى و قابلتو شخصيا في سويسرا ولعبنا كورة سوا، و خشينا في نقاش حاد هنا و هو عارف وجهة نظري في ما يعنيه هو كرمز لحالة/رؤية/طريقة لا كشخص ـ ده موضوع اخر واصلا لا يوجد شئ شخصي ـ و للمفارقة انا لا اعرف عصام الخواض الراحل الا عبر حكى احد الاصدقاء الحميمين عنه، لم اقابله في حياتى ...

تابعت كل ما دار في الايام السابقة منذ البوست المعنون باسم عصام و حتى بوستات الصداقة و السلام بتاعتك، و قصدت ان لا اتداخل في هذه المعمعة لاسباب عدة اولهاو اهمها على الاطلاق هو امر الاخ عماد لانى واسرتى مررنا بوضع شبيه حين مرض اخى الراحل خالد بالسرطان و كنا ايضا بدعم و عون مئات البشر نجمع تكاليف العلاج.

يا دوما قبل نمشي قدام ، سؤال مهم:

ماذا بين عصام و عصام الاخر؟

ما الفرق؟

ماذا اراد عصام الثالث قوله؟

ولانى اراهن عليك ضمن اخرين و اخريات في صف الحياة ـ مثل رهانى على نفسي ـ فالامر لا يعنى اشخاص ايا كانو.

انا فاهماك يا عصام نمره 3 و بس حبيت اقول ليك الانسان قد يكون ضحيه ظروفه حتي لو كانت طيبه بالمقياس المادي وما ادس عليك لو قلت ليك لما قريت كلام عصام 2 كاول متداخل(انتابني احساس غريب حقيقه ما لاقيه الكلمه البتوصفه حسيت بانه فكتم اكثر من كونه بير بتريتر وخجلت من معيار تقيمننا )
