يقوم مشروع خيام الأمل, واللذي مدته عام واحد, علي مبادرة مبنية علي العمل الأجتماعي والتي من خلالها يتاح للمجموعات المحلية الأستجابة لأزمة دارفور عن طريق عمل خيام ذات طابع فني مميز وفي نفس اللحظة تصبح الخيمة بؤرة ومركز تعليمي يعمل علي خلق الصلة بين تلك المجتمعات وشعب السودانز
تقوم المجتمعات المحلية بدعوة الطوائف الدينية, والمجموعات الطلابية, ومنظمات المجتمع المدني, وأي مجموعات أخري في المجتمع المحلي وذلك من أجل المشاركة في العمل الفني المصاحب لنصب الخيام والأنشطة المصاحبة لذلك من مناصرة وجمع تبرعات للعون الأنساني للمشردين في دارفور.

المشروع سيبلغ ذروته في سبتمبر 2008 فيما سيعرف بتجمع الخيام وذلك في ساحة المول أمام مبني الكابيتول في واشنطون
مشروع خيام الأمل لدارفور بدأ عام 2007 كجهد مشترك بين طائفة كنيسة المسيح المتحدة, طائفة الكنيسة المسيحية-حواري المسيح, ومنظمة السودان العزيز

Quote: The mission of the Tents of Hope project (http://www.tentsofhope.org) is to support a one-year community-based process in which people respond as communities to the crisis in Darfur, Sudan by creating tents that are both unique works of art and ongoing focal points within communities for learning about, assisting and establishing relationships with the people of Sudan. Local communities are inviting religious congregations, students, civic organizations and other groups to participate in the artistic creation of the tents and related activities such as education, advocacy and fundraising for humanitarian relief. The project will culminate in September 2008 with a “gathering of tents” at the National Mall in Washington DC . The Tents of Hope project began in June 2007 through a partnership between the United Church of Christ, Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and Dear Sudan
