هيا بنا ...رجل سودانى يواجه خطر الموت

إلى جميع الإخوة والأخوات :
أول أمس الثلاثاء 11 سبتمبر 2007 تحدث محامى المعتقل السودانى سامى الحاج وذكر بأن موكله قد تدهورت صحته بشكل مريع ، وأنه بلغ مرحلة من اليأس وفقدان الرغبة فى الحياة .
هذه مذكرة للرئيس الأمريكى جورج بوش ندعوه إلى إستخدام سلطاته لضمان إطلاق سراح سامى الحاج وبقية المعتقلين السودانيين فى معتقل غوانتانمو السىء الصيت . وبالطبع هنالك أشكال عديدة لم يرد أن يسهم فى هذه الحملة بوسائل أخرى لتأمين حق الحياة والحرية للمعتقلين السودانيين فى غوانتانمو . ونتوسل إلى كل من يرغب فى تأييد هذه المذكرة بتسجيل إسمه وعنوان المدينة التى يقيم بها إذا شاء .

Petition In Behalf of Sami Elhaj and Other Sudanese Detainess At the Guantanamo Base

Dear Mr. President
We, the members of the Sudanese Community in the United States, wish to assure you of our respect and highest esteem. It is our sincere hope that you would review this petition with your customary compassion and generosity

Mr. President
This urgent petition has been necessiated, first and foremost, by the rapidly deteriorating health of our fellow Sudanese Sami Elhaj Mohammed. Sami has been incarcerated with other fellow Sudanese at the Guantanamo Base since 2001. According to a very recent press release by his lawyer, Sami has been on a hunger strike for well over 100 days in order to draw attention to his unwarrantable and perilous condition. During this time, Sami has been forcibly fed in order to stop him from dying

Mr. President
Millions of people in the Sudan and world-wide are gravely concerned for Sami's life and his physical and psychological well being and for the fate of his Sudanees co-detainees. We respectfully wish to petition your compassion and kind attention to their plight. Your swift decision to secure their immediate release would most certainly engender powerful and joyous resonance in the Sudan and everywhere

Mr. President
At the time we are writing this petition to your Excellency, there are scores of US journalists, tourists, and relief personnel working and residing in our country. We are absolutely confident that they are being accorded utmost geniality, respect, safety and Sudanese hospitality. We, as Sudanese citizens working and residing in the United States are immensely grateful for the opportunities to live and pursue our goals in life among your generous people. We take this opportunity to assure you that we have the security and well-being of this grat nation at heart. Their safety and serenity are ours as well. We look forward to the day when the cordial bilateral relations between our two nations are back in full swing

Mr. President
Our compatriots, Sami Elhaj and his Sudanese co-detainees have been locked up for well over five years without being charged with any crime. We, respectfully, petition their immedate release or otherwise to grant them a fair and open trial according to the due process. This is the American way of fairness, compassion and justice, we are witnessing first hand

In anticipation of your favorable review of this serious humanitarian situation, we wish to thank you for your attention. Please, accept our very best wishes and our high esteem

As you suggested, the best strategy is to join the ongoing campaign in each town/city/state that calling for the release of Guantanamo detainees...and you, as Sudanese/American become the advocate on your country detainees...
I found this strategy works well as I witnessed in working with couple of groups here in my State.

This is good move and I whole heartedly support it. I would like to add that we as democratic forces who suffered from the NIF and the Islamists in Sudan call upon President Bush to release Sami Elhaj as a gesture and support to the Sudanese democrats who are striving for democracy and human rights. Let us make it a campaign for democracy and freedom for Sami Elhaj and all Sudanese political detainees in Guantanamo and inside Sudan as well. This will be a strong message to the Islamists of Sudan who kill our young people and arrest peaceful activists.
