RCA: Must we judge the old seleka؟ (by Pascal Djimoguinan)
The weekend of 19-20 October, we learned of the departure of General Moussa Assimeh Bangui with 15 of his men for Birao aboard a plane chartered by the President of the transition. This Sudanese warlord had participated in the seizure of power on 24 March by the Seleka. Little by little, unanimity was made between the Fomac and the transitional authorities around the departure of this man from the Central African Republic, whose presence was beginning to be embarrassing.
Although his departure was desired, the authorities realized that it was necessary to spare this man and caress him in the direction of the hair because he was feared (no other group of the seleka would have dared to attack him) ; he was thus decorated for his participation in the disarmament operations in Bangui. He was promoted to the rank of Commander of the National Order of Central African Recognition.
In Bangui, everyone remembers this general of the famous firefighters camp. The descent of his men in the neighborhoods of Bangui was synonymous with #####ng and abuse. Everyone avoided carefully to deal with them so much they were feared.
Today, it is surprising that this man will be able to return to Sudan without having been worried about all the crimes committed. It would seem that he went home with all his men.
Everyone still has in mind how Boy-Rabe, a district of Bangui was cut in section set by this general and his men. This is how Jonas Andji, the secretary general of the victims of Boy-Rabe has expressed his indignation: "I am surprised to learn on Sunday the news of the departure of General Moussa Assimeh. Our wish is to see him answer to the justice of the country, acts that he and his men have committed on the Central African population. It was he who organized the famous disarmament of the Boy-Rabe district, which ended in the death of our brothers and sisters that we continue to cry until today .
The Central African Republic, which is struggling to regain its calm since the arrival of the Seleka troops in Bangui, has no interest in allowing impunity to develop at the top of the state. The fact that General Moussa was able to return to Sudan unmolested is seen by the population as a reward for those who looted the Central African Republic and killed its children.
From now on, what will be done will be considered as a relentlessness on the small fry in order to allow the big criminals to escape. One can only hope that justice can, afterwards, prosecute all those who have been involved in a loan or by far to the suffering experienced by the Central African Republic and that there will be no impunity.
It is only when justice has said its word that the Central African Republic will find peace.
