Quote: August 20065 Southern Sudan and indeed the whole of Sudan has lost its beloved son, Dr John Garang De Mabior. The First Vice President of the Republic of Sudan and the President of South Sudan was on official visit to Uganda during the period 29th - 30th July 2005 when the helicopter he was traveling in crashed near New Kush on his return last Saturday. I take this opportunity to assure the Southern Sudanese in particular and the Sudanese people in general that we in the SPLM/A Leadership will continue the vision and the objective of the Movement that Dr John Garang De Mabior has articulated and hoped to implement. We also want to assure everone that the Leadership and all cadre of the SPLM/SPLA will remain united and strive to faithfully implement the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA). In this regard I have ordered the former members of the SPLM Leadership Council to assemble at New Site, Kapoeta County for an emergency meeting. I am now on my way to New Site to join the rest of the Leadersip and the family of Dr John. I call upon all members of the SPLM and the entire Sudanese nation to remain calm and vigilant. Cdr. التحية للحركة الشعبية لتحرير السودان و هي تجتاز هذا الإمتحان العسير و بسرعة فائقة في تعامل إيجابي كبير مع حدث هو الأكبر، التحية لها و هي تعلن مضيها في خيار السلام و التحية لها و هي تنتخب القائد سلفاكير ميارديت قائدا لهاخلفا للقائد الراحل الدكتور جون قرنق دي مابيور أتيم، فلندع ما مضى يمضي و لنعد العدة للقادم فهو بحق إمتحان أيضا كثيرون ينتظرون فشل الحركة الشعبية فيه و صحيح سينتظر طويلا من ينتظر جثة الحركة الشعبية على ضفة النهر.

تعازيَّ القلبية في الفقد الجلل وآمل حقَّاً أن لا يكون رحيل الدكتور جون قرنق انتكاسة ليس فقط للسلام وإنَّما لأحلام كل السودانيين، خصوصاً أهل الريف، في العيش الكريم وأخشى ما أخشى أن تتبخَّر، برحيله، الأحلام في حلول سلمية لمشكلتي دارفور والشرق ومشاكل المناطق الأخرى التي حتماً سوف تطل برأسها في ظل الهشاشة التي يعاني منها، هذه الأيام، الحل الشامل لمسألة السودان.

Dear comrades,

Just wanted to let you know how shocked, sad and sorry I am for the loss of Dr. John Garang. What a great loand catastrophic loss for the whole Sudan. His leadership, vision and thought will continue to guide us.

Please pass on my condolences to Mme Rebecca and his children and other family members and to all our brothers and sisters in SPLM/A.

My thoughts and love is with you all
May he rest in peace

and the struggle for the New Sudan continues
