Ustaz al-Khatim ‘Adlan, a prominent socialist politician, organizer, and writer was a leading human rights’ activist for succeeding generations; a radical intellectual who pursued the dissemination of socialist thought and public activities to change the life of the Sudanese poor - workers, peasants, employees, or students.

Endowed with a distinguished mastery of oration and writing skills, a burning brain, and a friendly soul, al-Khatim influenced student bodies as well as groups of activists and party members whose dedication and continuous support to the Cause of Democracy and Social Progression in the Sudan motivated the devout leader to pursue relentless activities in the public life, behind the bars, or in hiding, despite the tight surveillance of the hunting authorities.

The brave stands of Mohamed al-Khatim ‘Adlan earned him the hostilities of security forces, conservative leaders, hypocrite politicians, most of all, the Muslim Brotherhood groups. In spite of the political persecution, imprisonment, and forced exile to which he had been subjected since he joined the SCP, ‘Adlan never abandoned his deep rejection to all forms of suppression. In the late 1990s, he established HAQ, his own group that adopted a program for the establishment of peace, democracy, and social progression, independently from the other parties.

Like the Early Socialist pioneers, of whom Khatim ‘Adlan was perhaps influenced by the intellect and the amicable personality of ‘Abd al-Khaliq Mahgoub (who thoughtfully paid a special attention to the adjustability of the al-Marxiya to the indigenous structures and needs of the Sudanese society), ‘Adlan was destined to forge ahead with his own creative thought in pursuit of a new set of ideals to overcome the political disruptions of the Brotherhood’s destructive rule.

Sometimes in the mid 1990s, thinker 'Adlan contributed with some of his most critical works on the future of socialism. (This part requires careful research in a separate thesis). Interestingly, ‘Adlan introduced al-Wasatiya concept into the present-time politics of Sudan vis-à-vis the NIF fundamentalist suppressive indoctrinations that abused the religion of Islam by non-democratic rule and did a great harm to the tolerant modes of the Sudanese social life. (This part is worthy of detailed analysis in a separate work).
