Human Rights Activists,
The Sudanese National Rally (SNR) in Philadelphia (www.snrphiladelphia.net) held another successful political night (Laiyla Seyassiya) in its series of events to highlight Sudan’s issues.
The keynote speaker of the event was Mr. Khatim Adlan, co-founder and head of the New Democratic Forces Movement (HAQ). Mr. Adlan is also known for his weekly political column in Aladhwa’a daily newspaper of Khartoum, which is highly received and read especially among Sudanese in Diaspora.

The topic of the SNR event was the Naivasha peace agreement between the Sudanese regime in Khartoum and the Sudan People Liberation Army/Movement (SPLA/M).
In the 3-hr event, Mr. Adlan eloquently reviewed the major points of the agreement and reaching to the conclusion how this accord would be helping in deconstructing the ‘Civil Project’ advocated by the National Islamic Front on behalf of the whole Islamist Movement in the area.
Mr. Adlan spoke about the importance that all progressive political forces especially the northern ones to stand in support and solidarity with the SPLM stance in the coming interim 6-year period before the referendum. He also invited human rights lawyers within the opposition to take the imitative and start drafting the Election Law based on the IGAD Principles that stated it should be ‘free and fair’.

The well-attended event (in a very cold Feb night) concluded with an enthusiastic engagement from a politically diverse audience that represented activists from Western Sudan Association, Democratic Alliance, politically independent democratic activists,
HAQ, and other human rights activists from the neighboring states.
At the end of the discussion Mr. Khatim Adlan commended and applauded the distinguished role played by the SNR in putting the progressive human rights agenda of Sudan at the table of the legislative Houses that led to have the issue of Darfur in particular always present.

The planning committee of the SNR event (Dr. Bakash, Mr. Abdalla Yousif and Ms. Eithar Abu-Taha) organized a 2-day tour and social meetings for Mr. Adlan in the Philadelphia area. He also got a chance to meet briefly with Mr. Darryl Jordan, director of the Third World Coalition, a program of the American Friends Service Committee (www.afsc.org/locations/thirdworld.htm) and who sponsored the SNR event.

SNR is an umbrella organization for political opposition forces within the Sudanese immigrant community in Greater Philadelphia area on the east coast of the US
