As a consequence of the civil war in Sudan and our current displacement, we and our families lack the financial means to pursue these exceptional educational opportunities.
All three - *Mariam*, *Linah*, and *Islam* - received opportunities to study at the University of Oxford in December 2023, just three months after our displacement from Sudan due to the war. We were profoundly affected by the trauma of war and the hardships of displacement from Sudan to Ethiopia, enduring dangers like gunfire and artillery and aerial bombardment, even within Ethiopian territory, as we were stranded for 10 days in the Ethiopian-Sudanese border region, Gondar, due to the civil war in Ethiopia.
As a result of these brutal circumstances, we were unable to apply for the University of Oxford scholarships or prepare for the interview, and we lost that opportunity.
Nonetheless, these harsh conditions and immense suffering did not deter us from applying for and securing all the above-mentioned remarkable opportunities, which will enable us to lead dignified lives and continue our studies and academic pursuits.
