Sudan facing fresh charges of genocide in Darfur

SUDANESE government forces massacred their own citizens in a mosque in Darfur, according to fresh evidence presented by the African Union.

The AU, which is attempting to keep the peace in the devastated region, sent monitors to the town of Tawilla to investigate reports of a massacre last September.

A confidential AU report, obtained by The Scotsman, reveals that four people were killed and 24 injured.

It came to light as human rights organisations criticised the Sudanese government for its continued attempts to prevent the United Nations from taking over the peacekeeping role in Darfur, where upwards of 400,000 people are believed to have been killed in genocidal attacks.

The International Crisis Group (ICG) warned that the international community's "dismal" response to the three-year conflict in the Darfur region risked costing thousands more lives and creating proxy wars in a swathe of Africa.

It said thousands of UN peacekeepers should immediately join the over-stretched AU force to prevent more suffering in the vast region of west Sudan, where fighting has displaced two million people.

Meanwhile, the Human Rights Watch organisation demanded that the UN Security Council ensure civilians in Darfur were protected from more attacks.

The group said civilians continued to be terrorised in the western Sudan region, despite the presence of the 7,000-strong AU force.

New evidence of those attacks is apparent in the AU's reports. One details an attack in September last year in Tawilla in which Sudanese government forces had used "heavy and light weapons against an unarmed crowd of civilians".

The report added that the police then embarked on "a wanton destruction of properties, leaving 30 houses and market stalls burnt down" in a clear violation of peace accords signed by the government.

The AU said 30 heavily armed police soldiers opened fire on unarmed and innocent civilians who went to the mosque for afternoon prayers.

The report was signed off by a Sudanese colonel, but only after he had recorded his view that the incident was precipitated by an attack on police by Sudanese rebels carrying grenades in the mosque. The AU noted that a number of police were injured by a grenade.

Witnesses described how the police fired into the mosque using heavy weapons.

The UN Security Council has been threatening since 2004 to take action against the Khartoum regime but has so far failed to take any concrete steps to end the bloodshed.

Yesterday, Sudan claimed it was optimistic of reaching a peace deal with two of the main rebel groups in Darfur within the next month.

كل افادات شهود محرقة العصر كانت تفيد بان الجنجويد و القوات الحكومية
كانوا يهجمون علي المساجد ويقتلون كل من يجدونه بداخلها ثم يحرقون
المساجد والمصاحف ..ليخرجوا ويكملوا المهمة المقدسة ..علي حد زعمهم..
هذه الحادثة الموثقة تؤكد مهما كانت المعاذير بان افادات الشهود تلك
كانت صحيحة ...

قوات الحكومة السودانية إرتكبت مذابح ضد مواطنيها في مسجد بدارفور طبقا لأدلة جديدة أبرزها الإتحاد الأفريقي , كتبت جريدة ( ذي اسكوتسمان ) .
في تقرير سري للإتحاد الأفريقي تحصلت عليه ذي اسكوتسمان , ورد مقتل 4 أشخاص و جرح 24 شخصا آخرين .
برز هذا التقرير الي دائرة الضوء وسط إنتقادات من منظمات حقوق إنسان لحكومة السودان لمحاولاتها المستمرة لمنع الأمم المتحدة من القيام بدور حفظ الأمن و السلام بدارفور حيث يعتقد أن أكثر من أربعمائة ألف من الناس قتلوا من جراء هجمات إبادية .

الأدلة الجديدة لتلك الهجمات تبدو واضحة في تقارير الإتحاد الأفريقي . هناك تقرير يورد بالتفصيل إعتداء تم في سبتمبر من العام الماضي في بلدة طويلة حيث إستخدمت قوات الحكومة " أسلحة ثقيلة و خفيفة ضد تجمعات من المدنيين العزل " .

و أضاف التقرير أن قوات من الشرطة شرعت " في حملة من التدمير الوحشي و غير المبرر علي ممتلكات المواطنين حيث تم حرق 30 منزلا و متجرا حرقا كاملا " في خرق واضح و سافر لإتفاقية وقف الإعتداءات التي وقعتها الحكومة نفسها .

و ذكر الإتحاد الأفريقي أن ثلاثون من قوات الشرطة فتحت النار علي مدنيين عزل أبرياء ذهبوا لأداء صلاة الظهر بالمسجد .

هذا التقرير قد وقع عليه ( إقرارا ) ضابط سوداني برتبة كولونيل فقط بعد أن سجل وجهة نظره أن هذه الحادثة حدثت ردا علي إعتداء وقع علي الشرطة من قبل متمردين كانوا بالمسجد و لديهم قرنيد . الإتحاد الأفريقي سجل ملحوظة أن هناك عددا من الشرطة جرحوا بواسطة قرنيد .

هذا و قد وصف شهود كيفية تهجم و فتح الشرطة للنار علي المسجد مستخدمين أسلحة ثقيلة .
