كتب الدكتور خالد المبارك مراراً بأن الأستاذ محمود محمد طه دافع عن عادة الخفاض الفرعوني حين قاد ثورة رفاعة في عام 1946. وهو قد ظل مصراً على باطله رغم ما جاءه من توضيح، وذلك شأنه. ومن قبله وقع الدكتور محمد أحمد محمود في نفس الخطأ. وأنا أهديهما النص القصير التالي من كتاب الدكتورة (إيلين قروينبوم) ليقفا على حظهما من النهج العلمي في الكتابة وفي معالجة القضايا. قالت الدكتورة وهي تتحدث عن قانون الخفاض وثورة رفاعة

(One of the leaders of this resistance in Rufa'a was the religious leader Mahmoud Mohammed Taha, who is credited with being the first Muslim reformer in Sudan to advocate women's equality in Islam. Although he did not advocate female circumcision as the majority of citizens did, he led opposition to the law based on the conviction that education should come first, before a law was imposed).

ويجدر بالذكر أن الكاتبة قضت سنوات في بحث ميداني في السودان وربما في غيره من البلدان التي تنتشر فيها عادة الخفاض. هذه الكاتبة قد استطاعت، رغم حواجز اللغة وقصر الزمن الذي أنفقته بالسودان قياساً بالزمن الذي قضاه الدكتوران المحترمان، أن تنفذ إلى الحقائق وأن تضعها أمام القاريء بأمانة ودقة لم يكن منها للدكتورين المحترمين أي حظ رغم أنهما قد طاب لهما أن يتحدثا عن الحداثة. فأين الأزمة؟

أعتقد أن الأزمة فينا. نحن غير جادين. نحن قوم يمكننا أن نقرأ وننال الشهادات العليا ونأكل بها عيشاً، ولكننا لا نذكر الشعب السوداني الذي أنفق على تعليمنا. حتى حين نكتب إنما نكتب لنظهر بمظهر الثقافة، ولا نهتم بتوعية الشعب بما نكتب، ومن أجل ذلك لا نتحرى الدقة ولا الأمانة فيما نكتب. بل يمكن أن نسعى لتضليل الشعب بما نكتب. وإذا ظهر لنا باطل ما كتبنا، فإننا لا نعود للقراء لنعتذر لهم عن ما قلناه من باطل، بل ولا نراجع أمرنا، وإنما نستمر في باطلنا ونغالط فيه احياناً، على نحو ما جرى من الدكتور خالد المبارك، بكل أسف

dr.Khalid Almubarak has gotten into a state of denial long time ago .. since the first article by Omer Algarray .. he is just embaressed to admit that he was wrong and narrow ... this is my conclusion .. and he is not the only one among our Sudanese educated people .. as u have stated

Dear Taha,

Thank you for being a teacher of teachers and a teacher of pseudo-researchers. It is high time for the Sudanese people to take note of the likes of you, humble, descent, and genuine teachers and researchers. You diligently became so by self-education without a penny from the Sudanese treasury spent on formal training of the kind accorded to Dr. Khalid Al-Mubarak and Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Mahmoud.

It is a pity to see educated men such as these two fall into the pit of self-promotion and careerism, sicknesses of academia that need to be cured. Both have unsuccessfully tried the impossible by refuting the irrefutable facts about the Republican thoughts and practices. Their handling of themselves sharply deviated from the perception I had for both of them as mentors.

It is very painful for me to have written this comment because Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Mahmoud is a good friened of mine,. And Dr. Kahlid Al-Mubark is the older brother of the best teacher I had in elementary school, Ustaz Yaqoub Al-Mubarak Mustafa, besides being what he is known to be. I hesitated a lot before writing this comment, yet we have to speak our minds. We owe it to ourselves and to the Sudanese people to say the truth, especially when known “truths’ and facts are distorted by those who are supposed to be honest seekers, reporters, and teacher of it.

It is high time for the Sudan to begin “educating the educated and the uneducated alike” as Al-Ustaz Mahmhoud put it. Thank you for being one of the educators of tomorrow to the pseudo-educators of today.


Thanks again for being a teacher of teachers and of researchers!

لقد كتب الباحث الألماني يورجن روجالسكي كتابة بنفس هذا المعني في رسالة ماجستير عن حركة الأخوان الجمهوريين

وهي طبعا باللغة الألمانية ولكني سأنقلها لكم لعلمي بأن في البورد من يقرأها.

Actually ustaz Mahmoud's position was clear even to less trained academics as can be shown in the following excerpt from a research paper by Christine Mason BA (Hons), LLB. In a paper titled "Exorcising Excision: Medico-Legal Issues Arising From Male and Female Genital Surgery in Australia" Christine wrote that:
((Female genital surgery has been banned by certain regimes, and therefore is interpreted as part of repressive imperialism. British colonial rule in the Sudan, for example, enacted ineffective prohibition of all forms of female genital surgery in 1946. The result was not only anticolonial rumblings under the leadership of Mahmoud Mohammed Taha but an increased urgency and reduced age for the infibulation of girls. Some of these feelings persist in Australia; an attitude of "'we' will 'civilise' you because we know and live the truth". Thus the Ecumenical Migration Centre argued that legislation was not appropriate for addressing the dilemma of female genital surgery in Australia, since it makes "affected women feel rejected and self-conscious - as if they had a disease"))

It's a known fact that even after the enactment of FGM laws this cusom still prevails up to our current time. In "December 1998 a demographic health report on female genital mutilations revealed that 92.8 per cent of sudanese women had undergone the practice" according to another internet source http://www.asylumlaw.org/docs/sudan/ind99b_sudan_ca.htm

As you said the facts are out there for those who want to seek them, but of course those who want to make a living out of skewing them will not bow so easily and admit their mistakes.

Im selben Jahr wanderte Mahmud Muhammad Taha jedoch wiederum für zwei Jahre hinter Gitter. Die Republikaner kämpften gegen ein neues britisches Gesetz, das nicht nur die traditionelle pharaonische Mädchenbeschneidung verbot, sondern auch die ausführenden Frauen unter Strafandrohung stellte. Die Republikaner wendeten sich zwar auch gegen die pharaonische Beschneidung, wollten deren Abschaffung aber nicht durch Strafe der betroffenen Frauen, sondern durch Aufklärung und Propaganda erreichen. Im britischen Gesetz sahen sie primär eine Möglichkeit, ein Land, das um seine Unabhängigkeit kämpft, international als rückständig zu diskreditieren.
