Especially for English Language Lovers..
؟ Can any one tell the difference between 'Completed' and 'Finished'
No dictionary has ever been able to define the difference between 'Complete' and 'Finished.'
However, in a linguistic conference, held in London England,
Sunny Osman a Pakistani American, was the clever winner.
His final challenge was this.
His response was: When you marry the right woman, you are 'Complete.'
If you marry the wrong woman, you are 'Finished.'
And , when the right woman catches you with the wrong woman, you are 'Completely Finished.'
His answer received a five minute standing ovation.

As a lingusit I will disagree with this person

my argument is as follow

أختلف مع ما ذهب اليه هذا الرجل .. فى ان كل من الكلمتين يمكن ان تستخدما باكر من طريقة باعتبار اجزاء الكلام و على حسب موقع الكلمة فى الجملة ..

اولا كلمة finish باعتبارها فعل ..

intransitive senses
1 a : to come to an end : TERMINATE b : END 1b
2 a : to come to the end of a course, task, or undertaking b : to end relations — used with with *decided to finish with him for good*
3 : to end a competition in a specified manner or position *finished third in the race*

ثانيا ..

transitive senses
1 a : to bring to an end : TERMINATE *finished the speech and sat down* b : to use or dispose of entirely *her sandwich finished the loaf*
2 a : to bring to completion or issue *hope to finish their new home before winter* b : to provide with a finish; especially : to put a final coat or surface on *finish a table with varnish*
3 a : to defeat or ruin utterly and finally *the scandal finished his career* b : to bring about the death of

و لك ان تقارن بين الفعل المتعدى و الفعل اللازم ..

و ايضا تاتى الكلمة .. اسما Noun

1 : something that completes or perfects: as a : the fine or decorative work required for a building or one of its parts b : a finishing material used in painting c : the final treatment or coating of a surface d : the taste in the mouth after swallowing a beverage (as wine)
2 a : final stage : END b : the cause of one's ruin

و فى كون انها فعل ..
complete .. transitive

1 : to bring to an end and especially into a perfected state *complete a painting*
2 a : to make whole or perfect *its song completes the charm of this bird* b : to mark the end of *a rousing chorus completes the show* c : EXECUTE, FULFILL *complete a contract*
3 : to carry out (a forward pass) successfully

و لابد من الاشارة الى الاتى فى حال استخدام ايا من الكلمتين ..

و الفعل فى اللغة الانجليزية لما يضاف اليها ing او تكون ماضيا فتتحول الى صفة باختلاف كل منهما فى الاستخدام ..

و هذا و من ناحية لابد من النظر الى كل من .. antonyms

و لتكن مقارنة موضوعية .. فلننظر لك ل ال synonyms للكلمتين ..

الاولى .. complete

الثانية .. finish
