U.S. citizens in Sudan are strongly encouraged to avoid the neighborhoods of Umm-Dawm and the surrounding areas of North Khartoum including Bahri, Um Dawn Ban, Jerif Shariq, Al-elafon and Suba Shariq, especially Friday afternoon. The demonstrations are not known to be anti-western in nature; however, even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can at times turn confrontational and escalate into violence. You should avoid areas of demonstrations, and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations.
