وقد ولد في كاليفورنيا لأب سوري يدعى عبد الفتاح جندلي وأم أمريكية هي جوان سيمسون وأصبح الأب فيما بعد أستاذا في العلوم السياسية ،ولأسباب غير واضحة تبنت جوبز أسرة أمريكية من أصل بولندي بعد أسبوع فقط من ولادته.

وفشل جوبز دراسيا وطرد من الكلية التي كان يدرس فيها وعمل فيما بعد كأحد الفنيين في شركة أتاري. سافر جوبز إلى الهند في أولى فترات شبابه واعتنق الهندوسية وعاد إلى كاليفورنيا ليؤسس شركة أبل مع شريكه ستيف وزناك.

وبعد النجاح الكبير لأجهزة أبل حدث خلاف كبير بين جوبز ومديري الشركة ما اضطره إلى ترك الشركة في عام 1985 وأسس شركة (نكست) لأجهزة الكمبيوتر أيضا، وبعد فترة طويلة عاد جوبز إلى (أبل) في عام 1996 بعد أن اشترت (أبل) شركة (نكست).

ويعتبر جوبز أيضا صاحب أكبر نسبة أسهم أيضا في شركة (والت ديزني).

ومن بين الأقوال المأثورة لجوبز(السبيل الوحيد للقيام بشئ عظيم هو أن تحب ما تفعله) و "في بعض الأحيان تضرب الحياة رأسك بحجر لكن عليك ألا تفقد الإيمان" و "اجعل تفكيرك نقيا حتى تكون بسيطا" و"أن تتذكر دائما أنك ستموت هو أفضل سبيل لتتجنب الوقوع في فخ أنك سوف تفقد شيئا"

أول اجهزة حاسب شخصي Personal Computers نراها ونعمل عليها تبرع بها ـ عبر شركته ـ لجامعة الخرطوم في العام 1981م
