JOB TITLE: ROW, Senior Projects Manager, Business Development

REPORTS TO: Regional Director, Rest of World (ROW)

GRADE 9D

DURATION 12 Months


CONTEXT:

The BBC World Service Trust is the independent international charity of the BBC which uses media to advance development worldwide. As part of one of the world's leading media organisations, the Trust is committed to improving the quality of people's lives in developing and transitional countries through the innovative use of media.

The Trust's work aims to: raise awareness among mass and opinion-former audiences, affect behaviour change, influence policy and transfer skills and knowledge. The Trust is organised into the following areas: The Media Development Group, The Development Communications Group and The Research and Learning Group.

JOB PURPOSE:

The ROW Senior Projects Manager Business Development leads in business development for the region, developing projects and writing project proposals to donors.

MAIN DUTIES:

To be the key business winner for the Region working closely with the Regional Director, Country Directors, Project Managers and In Country teams.

Extensive experience of compiling calls for proposals and tenders for the European Union, USAID, DFID or other donor agencies.

Carry out desk research and occasionally visit countries and regions within ROW to investigate possibilities for project development and build relations with potential partners and funders.

Engage with London- based R&L team, policy and thematic team, communications team, legal team, finance team, funding staff, and procurement staff to ensure efficient and effective development of projects.

Write innovative and deliverable media project proposals that address development needs and meet donor criteria.

To have an understanding of the media development sector including journalism training, behaviour change communication and change management methodologies.

To have an understanding of how the media development sector sits within the development sector and to have a good understanding how to access funds.

Support the RD in ensuring that all projects strive to reach the highest editorial standards and comply with BBC and WST policies and procedures.

Engage with donors in-country and in the UK to secure funding for projects.

Contribute creatively and in terms of compliance to the editorial quality of all products.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

Essential:

Ability to write and manage the preparation of complex donor proposals for tight submission dates.
Knowledge of the media sector, particularly future media, journalism and production
Experience in media and development.
Initiative.
Sound judgement.
Editorial understanding
Strong writing skills and attention to detail.
Experience of financial management and ability to write and understand budgets.
Strong interpersonal skills.
A track record in raising funds from institutional donors.
Experience in engaging with international donors.
Knowledge of the Middle and Near East, Central Asia and Europe

Desirable:
Fluency in Russian, Arabic, Persian or another language.
Experience of working in the Middle East and/ Near East, Central Asia or Europe
Master's Degree in Development or International Studies
