Appeal: Sudanese Detained in Lebanon

Sudanese Committee in Lebanon would like to draw your kind attention to the situation of Sudanese asylum seekers, recognized refugees and nationals who are now in Lebanese detention and prisons; they are subjected to systematic arrest and mistreatment for the reason of illegal entry.

Lebanese authority even arrested recognized refugee under the protection of the (UNHCR) and those who present their cases seeking refuge shelter, and waiting final result for appeal. The period of imprisoned for illegal charge only month but the Lebanese Authority keep Sudanese refugee, asylum seekers and nationals for more than six months and some up to year and half.

Sudanese Committee in Lebanon strongly condemn this abuses urging you take initiative and suitable action to guarantee the safe and release of imprisoned refugee and asylum seekers.

Sudanese Committee in Lebanon ensured that Lebanese authority did not respect standards of customary International Human rights law especially articles (Five, Nine, and Fourteen ) for human rights.
Sudanese Committee in Lebanon urges you to:

1. Send letters to Lebanese Government to respect the human right standards and not to deport forcibly the Sudanese and asylum seekers from prisons and offer them immediate release.

2. Send letter to the UNHCR-Lebanon Regional Office to protect imprisoned refugee and asylum seekers in Lebanon.

3. Send Letter to the UNHCR Head Quarters to expedite procedure for resettlement of asylum seekers and refugee from Lebanon to the third hosting countries as quick as possible to protect them from possible detention, mistreatment and possible deportation.

4. Send appeal to the United Nations to support the cases of refugee and asylum seekers and provide urgent protection and secure necessary humanitarian support to them according to international norms.
