Communists in Britain condemn the Israeli atrocities
The Coordinating Committee of the Communist Parties in Britain (CCCP- Britain) deplores the criminal policies and actions adopted by the Israeli government in Gaza. The bombardment of the cities, towns, villages and refugee camps of Gaza by the Israeli military and subsequent invasion have created a catastrophic humanitarian crisis. The campaign of terror waged by the Israeli forces against the civilian population has killed hundreds and injured thousands. The Israeli attacks have not even spared UN sites and clearly marked civilian shelters. The bombardment of three schools that are run by the UN as shelters for civilian refugees and the killing of scores of innocent people, including many children, is the latest evidence of Israeli disregard for the rule of law and internationally recognised human rights.
CCCP-Britain believes that the Israeli actions are part of a carefully planned policy to create a fait accomplis before the end of the presidency of George Bush and rule of ultra reactionary forces in the US. The Israeli action is clearly being pursued with the blessing of the US administration and we strongly condemn its position and that of its EU partners and in particular the UK, who have encouraged Israel in all its actions.
It is a fact that successive Israeli governments have received military and economic assistance from the US in order to continue their occupation of Palestinian territory and oppress and murder Palestinian civilians on a massive scale. This has enabled Israel to violate international law and UN resolutions with impunity for more than 40 years.
CCCP- Britain believes that the continuation and escalation of conflict in the Gaza Strip may well lead other states of the Middle East countries, including Iran, into full-scale war, with disastrous consequences for the people of the region and the rest of the world.
We unequivocally condemn the Israeli government for its actions and call for an immediate cessation of all military activity by both sides. We advocate a total cease-fire and the brokering of a permanent peace under the auspices of the United Nations.
We believe that there is no military solution to the Palestine issue. In a state of war and blockade, it is the reactionary forces that would gain power and justify their policies in line with the interests of imperialism.
CCCP- Britain expresses its active solidarity with all progressive forces in Palestine. We believe that the permanent and lasting solution to the Palestine issue can only come about by safeguarding the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, based on the resolutions of the UN requiring full withdrawal of Israel from the occupied territories, a complete halt in the building of Jewish settlements in the West Bank and the establishment of an independent state of Palestine within the pre-June 1967 war borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital city.
