Influences Egyptian classical music, Indian popular & film music, Gulf Arabic, Sudanese, Bi Kidude, Ikwani Safa Musical Club, Culture Musical Club.
The music sounds like: Zanzibar and other areas of Eastern Africa. A beautiful marriage of Arab, African and Indian sounds, Taraab music is all about beautiful highly ornamented vocals, the lyrics almost always about love, soulful instrumental taqasim [modal improvisation] and exciting percussion. Lovers of Middle Eastern music will enjoy this genre for sure.
About The Sounds of Taraab A little over 100 years ago, the Sultan of Zanzibar sent his court musicians abroad to study...They returned, and taraab ws born. This genre, found in the towns of coastal Eastern Africa, is a happy hybrid of Arabic, Indian, and African styles, with the poignant songs of love and longing sung in the melodious language of Kiswahili. Zanzibar style taraab is basically Egyptian song and modal practice, and the predilection for Arabic instruments, such as the oud, qanun, nai, and violin, and takt percussion...dumbeg & riq. Mombasa is known for highly syncopated rythmn, with accordion, oud and violin backed up by guitar and modern drum kit. Dar Es Salaam sings songs that may be right out of an Indian movie, and tablas are the popular form of percussion there in that cosmopolitan city. In addition, you may hear varied instruments from anywhere, such as Japanese biwa or Latin American bongos, demonstrating the ecclectic nature of this music. The Sounds of Taraab endeavor to familiarize audiences with the exciting and profound music amd dance from Africa's Eastern coast.

عمر ساره لا يزيد عن الثلاثين ، لكنه عمر فتاة إختزن في ذاكرته ومخيلته تاريخ الحياة والصراع في السودان الكبير ؛ فبصوتها المنطلق وشجاعتها وإحساسها العميق بالتراث السوداني ، ساهمت البنت في ترجمة قضايا العنصرية ومناهضة العنف ضد المرأة بأشكال مختلفة عبر الكتابة والغناء والمشاركة المتسعة في مجموعة من الفعاليات المدنية في المسارح والجامعات والإحتفاليات بأمريكا .. فقبل أعوام ، سنحت لي الدنيا بمشاهدة سارة ضمن فرقة ” عرايس النيل ” في النمسا ، وشاهدت عبر العرض الذي قدمنه ، أنماطاً من الرقص والتعبير الجسدي على إيقاع مزازيك محلية ، الشيء الذي ربما لم يسمح لأبناء جيلي بمشاهدته بما فيه من حيوية وطلاقة وصدق .. كذلك طرحت ساره مجموعة من الأغنيات على مدى السنوات الماضية ، وصورت بعضها بطريقة فيها ملمس طاعم وإنزلاق أخاذ بين المشاهد التي يتجول فيها البصر بين وجهها ومراتع أمدرمانية وملامح لمناطق مختلفة من العالم على خلفية موسيقية وصوتية شديدة التمكن في الإيصال بإخراج وتصوير شبه عفوي ، وهندسة صوت متمكنة وشبه محترفة شاركها فيها مجموعة من أصدقائها الشباب من جنسيات مختلفة ..
بالنسبة لي ، فإنني أنظر إلى سارة كتجسيد لعدة قيم إيجابية من ضمنها ، الشجاعة في التعبير بصدق عن قضايا وجودية ، بالإضافة إلى الرغبة الأصيلة في التجريب ، بجانب الموهبة الشديدة ، وقبل هذا وبعده ، القدرة على التوازن بين روح حضارتين ، والتجسير بينهما والخروج منهما بروابط إنسانية حقيقية تعين على الحياة ..
كما أنني ، الآن ، حين أنظر لتجربة الساره محمد القاضي ، فإنني أتذكر مقولة الأستاذ حسين شريف بأن الغربة ليست غربة جسد أو مكان ، إنما الغربة مساحة داخل العقل ) ، ويبدو لي أن هذه الفتاة الفنانة قد نجحت في العبور إلى الضفة الأخرى بنجاح ، حيث عرفت بذهنها أن تجعل من هذا العالم المتسع ، مترامي الأطراف موطناً لها ، إذ تسير ساره ، الآن – بين مناكبه وناسه - مليئة بالفهم العميق لملمس الحياة وطعمها الملون الآخاذ.

I believe, Ya Talal, it's the spirit of your generation and Sarra's... longtime, in the early 1970s I thought that our generation was the best ever. Why not? we attended, though young, October revolution, we defended art in U of K theater of Folklore Dances, we were the generation that brought the French Student revolution to Egypt when we took over and defended al-Tahrir Square for 3 nights against the Thugs of Lazoughli, and later took the lead in the Intifadah 1985.
Secretly, I thought we left nothing to your generation and Sarra's..... ! Until you surprised us by the Internet and the world of the Internet.... You managed to organize a real, not virtual, continuous Intifadah here.... My Space, YouTube, Blog, FaceBook, etc just few...
It was just a natural act for Sarra and the rest of the Brides of the Nile to join the masses of youth here in Western Massachusetts and rally in front of one Military Base... this was immediately after 9/11 and when the Bush Admin started the beats of the war ... Our generation could not be brave like yours and we had to calculate many things Ya Zameel... and I do not where was that Zameel in 1985 when we rebelled against the SCP in Khartoum and decided to lead and not to be led....!
The type of this World Music of Taraab that Sarra has started to explore made her a pioneer in this field... The way she introduces her songs and the story behind these singers and slaves of Zanzibar always captured her audience... Afar from love to her work as a parent, I really see her work as part of the artistic rebellion that represented by the work of many artists in many generations such as: Alhassan Albakeri [A7wal Almu7arib Alqadim]; Raouf Muss3ad [Ithaca], and Idreis Ali [Dongola].
A last word, the creation of Sarra, and her sister Nahid, needed a village to raise as they say here ... however, the best of Sarra's was due to my 33-year partner, Magda....

As always I kept saying that your group is an art school for change per se, and played major role in the shaping up a whole generation of young Sudanese in Diaspora... I hope that you continue your idea of helping to create a Brides of the Nile chapter in each Sudanese community to bring the progressive ideas of Sudanese art..

It would make a lot of sense that Sarra continues her exploring East African Swahilli singing of the oppressed slaves of the 19th Century and explore the songs of the oppressed prostitutes in Sudan who came from the same class of the Zanzibari ones.
