قي يوم 11اكتوبر سينزل هذا الفيلم بقناة ال CBC الكنديه الساعه التاسعه مساء. Quote: Hi ,
We need publicity for our documentary and I'm wondering if you could help spread the word in the Sudanese community in Canada. The title is Darfur: On Our Watch and it will be broadcast on CBC TV's Doc Zone on Thursday Oct 11th at 9 p.m. Darfur: On Our Watch is an examination into why the world is incapable of stopping genocide. We look at why it took the UN so long to respond to the first warning signs that ethnic cleansing was underway and why the UN and the international community have been unable to stop the suffering over the last four years.
As Eric Reeves says in the documentary: "It's almost impossible for me to describe the scale of the international failure and how dismaying it is and how obvious it is we've learned nothing. I’m given to saying that in the wake of Rwanda it’s as though the gods of history looked down on us and said your failure was so appalling… we’ll give you another chance and we’ll give you a lot of time and we’ll call it Darfur. And we failed just as badly as we failed in Rwanda.â€
But there is hope. Everyone from Luis Moreno-Ocampo to Mukesh Kapila to Samantha Power to Mia Farrow agrees that without the strong activist voice applying pressure on the governments of the world, Darfur would be in a much worse situation today.
Here is the list of people we interviewed for the documentary:
*Ounda Fatih Younnis Hannon Tarbush- Darfur Refugee in Chad (June 2007) *Khadeiga Abdullah - Darfur Refugee in Chad (June 2007) *Senator Romأ©o Dallaire - In 1994, General Dallaire commanded the United Nations Assistance Mission for Rwanda (UNAMIR) *Debbie Bodkin - 20 year-veteran of the Waterloo regional Police, in Ontario and the only person who participated in the US Department of State, Documenting Atrocities in Darfur inquiry and the United Nations Commission of Inquiry on Darfur in 2004. *Mia Farrow- activist, actress, UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador *Eric Reeves -activist, author of A Long Day's Dying: Critical Moments in the Darfur Genocide *Samantha Power- author "A Problem from Hell" American and the Age of Genocide *Alex de Waal - author with Julie Flint Darfur: A Short History of a Long War *Sudan's U.N. Ambassador Abdalmahmood Abdalhaleem *Mukesh Kapila - UN Resident and Humanitarian Co-Ordinator for the Sudan in 2004 *Luis Moreno-Ocampo - Chief Prosecutor for the International Criminal Court *Sir Kieran Prendergast - former Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs at the UN
The documentary is written, produced and directed by Neil Docherty, one of Canada's foremost documentary filmmakers.
Here is a short publicity statement about our documentary, which is launching the new Doc Zone season:
Darfur: On Our Watch Darfur. A word that has come to mean violence and terror, rape and murder. A killing field that splashes across our headlines. Yet the world stands by as the first genocide of the 21st century unfolds. Now, one of the largest citizen movements in decades is trying to make a difference. Celebrities are stepping into the void left by the world's leaders. The American movie star, Mia Farrow lives on "Darfur time" in a desparate race against evil. CBC and PBS Frontline travel with her to the refugee camps in Chad as Farrow struggles to comfort the afflicted and alert the world to their pain. DARFUR: ON OUR WATCH is a story of why helpless, hapless instituations cannot stop the unfathomable cruelty. Darfur is also an inspirational story of star-powered celebrities and ordinary citizens determined to stop the suffering.
Best wishes,
Lisa
