The situation in Sudan still shaken. Violence and militias attacks against civilian population have been increasing in Sudan since the start of the 2020. Dispute over the land ownership and coemption for scarce resources between heeders and farmers communities have caused increased tensions which are often ethnically motivated. A series of clashes between Arab and Masalit communities that started in January 2020 around El-Gnina city in west-Darfur, has resulted in at least 70 people being killed and over 40,000 displaced. Furthermore, clashes broke out on the 5 May 2020 in South Darfur between Falata and Rizegate communities, resulted in at least 30 people were killed. Fighting also took place between Nobba and Beni-Amer in Kasslala city in east Sudan, between 7 to 10 May 2020, resulted in at least 8 people were killed and over 100 people were injured, thousands of people fled the violence while hundreds of houses and business were complelty destroyed. population in Darfur had already been subjected to violation perpetrated by armed groups. According to the UN panel of experts in Sudan stated that various human right violations and abuses continued unabated or without any reduction in intestacy in Darfur regions. for example, during 2019 and early 2020, human rights violation took place which include rape, and other forms of sexual and physical violence, often used as tactics by armed groups to prevent communities from gaining access to their farms and from engaging in other livelihood activities. Violence has also been raising in South-Kordofan, where a fraction of the army clashed with the paramilitary rapid support forces (RSF). ON THE 12 and 13 May 2020, clashes that started over cattle between Nuba and Bagara communities outside of Kadugli City in South-Kordofan, at least 14 people were killed, including 10 civilians. Moreover, during mass demonstration between December 2018 and August 2019, more than 200 people were killed, and thousands were arrested throughout Sudan.
Background:
During his 30 years rule. Al-Bashir and other ex-government officials allegedly committed atrocity crimes against Black African Communities in Sudan. While many had hoped that the transition to a new government could bring an end to atrocity crimes in Sudan. The failure to address the root of atrocity crimes and the failure to co-operate with the ICC in Sudan encourage the widespread ethnic violence and attacks on civilian populations.
