In a big gathering of ordinary people/civilians, the “Emergency Clinic“ Youth Initiative celebrated the opening of the new Intensive Care Unit at Mohamad Alamin Hamid children’s hospital in Omdurman city ,Sudan. On Saturday, the 16th of May 2015, Um Gisma cut the ribbon giving a start of the ICU to provide help for children who suffer from cancer and bedded in the hospital. Um Gisma is a woman from the poor class who works selling tea in the streets to maintain and support her needy family. Despite of her situation, she supports the Emergency Clinic Initiative with everything she can do .Um Gisma then has been known as the Godmother of the Emergency Clinic Initiative. Thus, the initiative decided to award her the honor of opening the new ICU instead of the minister of health. Um Gisma becomes an inspiring icon. She stood in the front with a recovering child beside her, both of them, displaying a remarkable beginning of such helpful project.

Thousands of poor women in Sudan work as tea sellers sitting on the edge of roads and under trees toiling to save their families. Those women work under very hard conditions starting from the little income out of this job to the pressuring harassment by the authorities. These hard conditions have prompted many writers and journalists to establish solidarity defending the rights of those tea sellers. It should be mentioned here that the Emergency Clinic Youth Initiative is a heroes’ job .Those young people are volunteers who work very hard to save the lives of poor ill people who cannot afford paying for their treatment and medications.
This youth initiative is financed by individuals’ donations.

According to reports, the Sudanese health sector is classified the worst in the world and Sudan comes among the five countries of the world that put the lowest public spending on this sector. Currently, Sudan is witnessing an increase in the proportion of cancer and liver disease. Since the government gives a little for this sector, these active and creative young boys/girls are opening the window for hope.
