Maiada Gamar Aldin. (The Queen of Tambourine)

ميادة قمر الدين

Her first appearance was in (Stars of Future) on a TV show in Blue Nile TV in 2012. Maiada’s style is very special as a female singer. She challenged the dominating masculinity of Haqiba songs of central Sudan and the first female singer to use the tambourine during her performance. Her first album "Girls chat" was unique as the first female singer applying the traditional style of Haqiba songs by using drums instruments only (Darabuka, Bongos and tambourine). But she combines this style with the traditional (girls songs). She has a couple of songs like (ya Ghazali = my deer) and (ma bitgona؟ = will not come us؟) Using a female chorus.

Insaf Medani (The Queen of Daloka)
إنصاف مدنى

Currently she is one of the Sudanese females singers dominating the scene and believed to be the Queen of (Aghani al-banat) which means "girls songs", a sort of urban genderdized music. She successfully managed to amass thousands of fans by combing girls and hamasa (enthusiasm songs). Hamasa songs solely praise men by describing their power, wealth, braveness, masculinity, generosity etc. She also known to be the (Queen of the daloka), a locally made single drum used in Aghani al-banat and hamasa songs. But she also performs using modern musical instruments. Her songs represents at typical tom-tom girl songs describing the social and economic processes or changes in the Sudanese society. Her songs are communicated to her fans through colorful toubs (Sudanese women wear), well decorated hena and body language while singing.

Nancy Ajaj

نانسي عجاج

Nancy Ajaj

Nancy was born in a musical family. Her late father Baderldin Ajaj was a famous keyboard player and musician who contributed allot to development of the Sudanese music. Her younger sister is also a singer. Her father migrated to the Netherland in 1997 when she was 18 years old. She started her musical career in the Netherland and today she is one of the top Sudanese pop singers with three albums (Sehr Al Nagam’, ‘Refga’, and ‘Moja’) and around 35 songs. Migration shaped her life while she lived in the Netherlands, Canada and the UAE, but has now officially settled back in Sudan.
Rima Alsammare wrote: “A guitar plays with soft Andalusian influences. Then a flute joins in with an equally gentle melody. The camera pans across the Nubian pyramids in Meroë, an ancient site near Khartoum, before Nancy Ajaj – Sudan’s favorite singer – takes centre screen. With kohl around her eyes, a keffiyeh around her neck and magenta hair framing her angular face, her voice, hitting the soprano notes she’s known for, seamlessly flows into the music”. This is Nancy Sudan’s favorite pop star.
