A number of observers expect eruption of wide-scale political and military disputes between the SPLM and Darfur rebel movements.
In fact, the indications of this crisis appeared upon the mysterious assassination of Sideq Musa’ad, one of the field commanders of the Sudan Liberation Movement, in Bahr El-Ghazal state last October.
Well-informed source in Wau, the capital of Bahr El-Ghazal state, said that some SPLM members are involved in the assassination incident, pointing out that the spokesman of the Sudan Liberation Movement Issam Al-Haj has sent a direct threat to the SPLM in which he said that his movement waited long time the results of the investigation committee that was established by the Sudanese First Vice President and SPLM leader Salva Kiir Mayardit and that their reaction will not satisfy the SPLM if this procrastination continued. He added that the SPLM will not be happy if they revealed what they have
Apart from the involvement of the SPLM in the incident and the seriousness of the threats of the Darfur rebel movement, the stance reflects that the Darfur rebels are no longer trust the SPLM because they feel that the SPLM, which claims keenness to unify the Darfur rebel factions, is stabbing them in the back.
The SPLM did not comment on the statements of Al-Haj. But some SPLM leaders have quietly said that the investigation committee did not complete its work.
Surely, the deterioration of the relationship between the SPLM and Darfur rebels could be attributed to the SPLM behavior toward the Sudanese political forces.
The SPLM neither gains the trust of the rebels nor takes decisive stance toward them similar to the stance of the SPLM partners in the government of national unity who call on the rebels to sit at the negotiation table with the government in order to find a peaceful solution to the issue.
