NOVEMBER 2018
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) will work closely with physical rehabilitation centres across Sudan and the concerned authorities over the next few years to increase accessibility and improve quality of services for persons with disability who
wish to benefit from services provided
by ICRC-supported centres.
This was disclosed by Kedir Awol
Omar, the Head of Delegation of the
ICRC in Khartoum, during the opening
ceremony of an annual seminar of the
Physical Rehabilitation Centres (PRCs)
which took place from 13-15 November
at the National Authority of Prosthetics
and Orthotics (NAPO) Khartoum Centre.
In attendance at the session were 2 State
Ministers from the Ministry of Security
and Social Development (MOSSD), the Deputy Head of Delegation of the ICRC, the Physical Rehabilitation Programme Manager of the ICRC and other important stakeholders.

E-NEWSLETTER
In more specific terms, Kedir said that beginning from 2019, the ICRC’s Physical Rehabilitation Programme, together with NAPO Khartoum, will increase direct technical support to state centres, especially those that meet the minimum criteria of operations of the ICRC and which are located in conflict areas. This support will be led by a flying team from the Physical Rehabilitation Department of the ICRC and will conduct frequent and regular field visits to these centres in order to develop services there. He assured participants that the support of the ICRC will be maintained until the various centres, NAPO and concerned authorities are able to sustain the provision of quality services on their own.
The seminar afforded all PRCs from States of Sudan where the ICRC supports rehabilitation centres the op- portunity to meet and discuss their achievements, challenges and the way forward with regard to improving the quality of services offered. At the end of the seminar, participants put forward recommendations aimed at improving the services offered by the PRCs.
