More than twenty people died in heavy rains in Sudan. At least ten people died in El Gedaref as their houses collapsed. A ferry boat sank on the Nile and five passengers reportedly drowned. Other villages and small cities in Sudan’s northern states reported six casualties.

The daily newspaper El Intibaha said that five people were killed in Gedaref Wasal by torrential rains, and on Sunday, at least five people died in the area bordering Ethiopia called El Saraf, in El Gallabat locality, when their houses collapsed. Other newspapers quote sources who report that at least 14 people were killed in El Gedaref.

Five people reportedly drowned in Berber area, River Nile state, when their ferry sank. The victims of the ferry, El Ayam newspaper reports, were four women and one child. Heavy floods ending in the Nile have caused strong currents.

Police in River Nile state have confirmed that four children were killed when their houses collapsed under the weight of the rainfall.

In Nierteti in Central Darfur, a man named Badriya Haroun Yahya Haroun drowned when he tried to cross a large stream on Sunday.

El Mihar newspaper quoted Sudanese meteorologists who confirmed that the waters of the Nile are expected to rise in the next few days.
