Civilians bear the fighting in Sudan’s Blue Nile state: UN says

The interim UN resident and humanitarian co-coordinator in Sudan, Geert Cappelaere, has said as conflict has increased in Sudan’s Blue Nile state, it continues to be civilians who bear the brunt of this fighting amid reports thousands of people have been displaced since early May.
According to statements attributed to Cappelaere that civilians have fled violence in Bau locality and possibly other parts of the border state
“It continues to be civilians who bear the brunt of this fighting,” he said.”Humanitarian needs are rapidly rising in Blue Nile, but aid agencies are often not permitted to independently assess humanitarian needs and respond.”

Access to Blue Nile is tightly controlled and it is difficult to check reports of fighting but officials there have said thousands of people fled their homes in May.
“According to the Humanitarian Aid Commission (HAC) in Blue Nile, around 11,000 people have been displaced by fighting in Bau district since early May,” said Damian Rance, of the UN’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
Nearly 50,000 tones of US food aid bound for areas of Sudan affected by conflict arrived in the country this week, the UN World Food Programme said.
“The US vessel Liberty Grace docked in Port Sudan carrying 47,500 tones of sorghum, a household food staple in Sudan,” the WFP said in a statement.
