Sudan’s Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) has emphasized that any alliance with the ruling National Congress Party (NCP) will be in the interest of Sudanese State and resolving its problems.
DUP’ Secretary of Organization, Mohammed Al-Hassan al-Mirghani, said in press statements on Friday that his party is waiting for the formation of the new government, stressing that his party will be satisfied with any ratios they obtained
Al-Mirghani said that DUP’s priority is the social and economic reform in the country and not the agreement with the ruling party, indicating that they would change the country during 181 days, even if the rate of their participation in the government was small, noting that they will focus the economic affairs.
In a related context, He confirmed that they have made it clear to the President in an earlier meeting that there is a tendency to withdraw the DUP currently ministers who represent the party in the government, especially since their appointment was in accordance with the prior agreement with the government.
The DUP left opposition ranks and joined the “broad-based” government of the NCP in December 2011, citing the “need to save the country” in the words of al-Mirghani himself.
The decision of one of Sudan’s biggest opposition parties to join the government has created a great deal of internal dissent that saw many members quitting in protest. The party received three ministries in the federal cabinet.
