Sudan’s Foreign Ministry has expressed its reservation on remarks made by the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon on Tuesday, pointing out that the information obtained by him were false and fabricated through UNAMID in regard to the recent incidents.
Ki-moon voiced deep concern about the recent spate of attacks on African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) as well as the “limited cooperation” provided by the Government of Sudan in addressing the incidents, a spokesperson for the Organization has confirmed.
In a statement issued on Monday, the UN spokesperson's office said the Secretary-General condemned the two successive attacks by unidentified armed groups that occurred in Kass, South Darfur on 23 and 24 April.
On Kass incident, the Ministry said that an investigation committee including the ministry, the presidency and the concerned parties visited the area for two days adding that the investigation committee report affirmed that the UNAMID troops killed two citizens inside the camp and 4 outside it.
According to the committee, about 7 thousand citizens assembled for revenge or getting the blood money; but the UNAMID refused to pay.
In an attempt to cool down the situation the government authorities paid part of the blood money which amounts to SDG3.5 million.
The government s is keen to protect the citizens and their rights, so it paid part of the money to protect the lives of the people.
It is worth noting that The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, expressed his concerns about the recent increase in the number of attacks on UNAMID soldiers.
