Sudan’s president, Omer Al-Bashir, has told Troika countries that the country gained its independence in 1956 and will not accept guardianship from any nation.
In a statement released last week, the three members of the Sudan Troika expressed regret over what they described as failure by the Khartoum government “to create a free, fair, and conducive elections environment”.
They said the “outcome of these elections cannot be considered a credible expression of the will of the Sudanese people”.
In his speech following the announcement of his victory in the elections on Monday, Al-Bashir said that Sudan is a free country and doesn’t accept guardianship from any nation, pointing out that Sudanese people have presented a lesson to those who think they are guardians of the people and on ethics, integrity and transparency as well as civilization.
“Sudan is a million times better than those countries in terms of history, moralities and religion… Britain who claims that it was the Empire where the sun does not set, now her sun has set here in Sudan.” Al-Bashir said
Sudan’s president said that he respects the stance of those who called for peaceful boycott of elections because this is their constitutional right, hailing those who rejected the failing attempts and participated effectively in the elections.
