Khartoum is hosting the preparatory meeting for the leaders of the armies of Eastern Africa Alliance, which bears the name of (the ready forces) and I will finish today Tuesday and followed by further meetings at the level of Chiefs of staff in preparation for meetings of the Defence Ministers of the region. The Alliance comprises Sudan, Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Djibouti, Somalia, the Comoros and the Seychelles.
Chief of the joint forces, Lt. Emad Eddin Mustafa, told the meetings that the forces consist of five geographical regions of the continent and it is tasked to be responsible for the eastern region, noting that the forces include military, police and civilians, calling upon the Member States to pay their annual contributions in time to be able to adhere to the African Union road map regarding forming multinational operational force.
Mustafa pointed out that those forces was formed by the AU Peace and Security Council Protocol to contribute to the building of cohesion and tolerance in the continent, noting that the current meetings give good opportunity to strengthen relations between the Member States to ensure peace and security.
He emphasized that these forces can fulfill its mandate and mission if they have a legal framework, structure and appropriate internal structures and the provision of personnel, equipment, finance, leadership.
