Chairman of the IGAD monitoring team to Sudanese elections to be started Tomorrow, Monday, Mahmoud Abdullah, said that IGAD team’s aim is to help Sudan to conduct credible elections and to develop the culture of democratic elections to avoid conflicts that related to the electoral disputes
In a press conference he held in Khartoum on Saturday, Abdullah disclosed that they have made consultations with the various participants in the election process on the matter, pointing out that his team will be deployed in eight groups and that they will monitor the elections and the opening and closing stages of ballot counting in the areas allocated to them in Al Gazhira, Khartoum North, Omdurman, Kosti, Dongola, Shendi, Al- Gadarif, White Nile and Wad Medani)
Sudan’s National Elections Commission said on Friday that the most important States that would participate in monitoring of the elections are Russia, China, Brazil, Turkey, Nigeria, Djibouti, Mozambique, among organizations, together with the African Union, Arab League, the Iraqi Parliament and others
Most major opposition political parties are boycotting Monday’s presidential election because they say it will not be free and fair.
Only 15 lesser-known parties, some say the creation of the government, are challenging Bashir.
