Saudi Agriculture Minister, Abdal-Rahman bin Abdal-Mohsin Al-Fadhli, held intensive meetings with Sudanese officials in the capital Khartoum, including Sudan’s President Omar al-Bashir, Ministers of agriculture, irrigation, and water and electricity and the livestock. The meeting discussed the increasing Saudi investments in Sudan under Arab food security initiative
After his meeting with Saudi minister, Sudanese Investment Minister, Dr Mustafa Osman Ismail, said in a press statement that Saudi Minister discussed the possibility of the increasing of the agricultural investments in Sudan, adding that the visit is an outcome of the recent visit made by President Al-Bashir to Saudi Arabia Kingdom, pointing out the visit also comes under the direction of the Saudi leadership to expand investment in the country.
"We have presented to Saudi Minister many projects in areas of different investments, especially the areas of food security” Ismail
It should be noted that some reports published two days ago indicated that some Arabic funds and financing institutions will start in a few days future financing of agricultural projects in the Sudan within the framework of the improvement of relations with Saudi Arabia after Khartoum’s government announced its participation in the Saudi-led military coalition against the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen.
Two weeks ago Sudanese president Omer Hassan al-Bashir concluded a one-day state visit to Saudi Arabia in which he met with King Salman Bin Abdel Aziz and his son Mohamed who is the kingdom’s defence minister, in which in Sudan will stand with Saudi Arabia and will fight with Arab Gulf States.
Sudanese president has stated that their participation in the coalition is “symbolic” consisting of 3 Russian Sukhoi-24 fighters and some transport planes.
