Sudan’s Foreign Ministry stressed that there was no alliance between Khartoum and Tehran, pointing out that the same time that Sudan has never cut its ties with Iran, noting that if Sudan decides to cut these relations, it will announce that to everyone.
In press statement on Sunday following the return of Sudan’s president, Omer al-Bashir, from Sharm el-Sheikh where he participated in the Arab Summit, Sudan’s Foreign Minister, Ali Karti, said that the decision to participate in a Saudi-led offensive against Yemen's Houthis is a State’s decision, pointing out that they have directed the Sudanese Embassy in Yemen to contact all Sudanese in Yemen to take caution and never get out of the remote areas.
Sudan’s top diplomat emphasized that movements made by President with Arabic leaders have opened a lot of areas and strengthened Sudan’s relations with its neighboring countries
“There will not be any obstacles preventing Arab leaders from supporting Sudan, "Karti said
Sudan on Thursday announced its participation in a Saudi-led offensive against Yemen's Houthis, which began with a string of airstrikes late Wednesday.
Saudi Arabia said the anti-Houthi operation was in response to calls by Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi for military intervention to "save the people of Yemen from the Houthi militias."
Fractious Yemen has been in turmoil since last September, when the Shiite militant group overran capital Sanaa, from which it has sought to extend its influence to other parts of the country as well.
Some Gulf countries accuse Shiite Iran of supporting the Houthi insurgency.
