Secretary General of Sudan’s Ansar al-Sunna group, Dr. Ismail Osman Al-Mahi, called on Sudanese people to nominate Sudan’s president Omar al-Bashir for the presidential election and participating in the electoral process, saying it is legal and constitutional right.
Addressing rally to launch the national campaign for the nomination of Al-Bashir in East Darfur on Tuesday, Al-Mahi stressed that his group support Al-Bashir because the latter electoral program based on maintaining of Islamic Sharia, pointing out the priority must be for protection of the Islamic Sharia first, noting that Al-Bashir has exerted good effort in this regard.
He said that Al-Bashir has made efforts to achieve peace and stability in the country and that his electoral program focuses on unification of All Sudanese people, besides Al-Bashir’s efforts in the field of external relations and the role he has played in bridging between the Arabic and Islamic countries.
Al-Mahi also called on Sudan’s president to go ahead in the national dialogue and the community dialogue so as all Sudanese people express their opinion.
Al-Bashir pledged in January to redraw the constitution, bring opposition parties into government, and launch a national dialogue, but no visible progress has been made.
The few active opposition movements in Sudan are already losing hope of any change while an economic crisis that has worsened since the secession of the oil-rich south in 2011 has angered struggling citizens.
