Sudan’s ruling National Congress Party (NCP) reviewed in its political sector meeting on Monday the threats and actions for the next elections, expressing its satisfaction on the participation of the national parties in the electoral process, directing its supporters to conduct fair elections reflecting the awareness of Sudanese society and contribute to the achievement of security and stability.
At press conference on Monday, the head of NCP political sector, Dr. Mustafa Osman Ismail, disclosed that the meeting reviewed the overall status and the results of the Berlin Conference, bedside the contracts made between the Sudanese parties and German.
Ismail thanked the German Government for sponsoring the Conference, pointing out that his party welcomes any understandings and meetings that will lead to a convergence of views with the opposition to join the national dialogue, confirming that the release of political prisoners is necessary to create good atmosphere for the dialogue.
Al-Bashir launched the national dialogue initiative more than a year ago in which he urged opposition parties and rebels alike to join the dialogue table to discuss all the pressing issues.
But the initiative faced serious setbacks after rebel groups and leftist parties refused to join and after the National Umma Party (NUP) led by al-Sadiq al-Mahdi withdrew from the process in protest of al-Mahdi’s brief arrest last May.
