Dozens of students of the University of Dongola, in the Northern State, staged a sit-in on Sunday, in protest against the eviction of five students.

ā€œThe management of the university dismissed five students, and prohibited eight others from organising any cultural, political, or university activity in the future,ā€ an angry student informed Radio Dabanga.

He explained that the decision to remove the students was taken, because of the continuing tension between independent students and students of the Popular Congress Party, led by Dr Hassan El Turabi, ā€œcaused by a heated political debate at the campus last Novemberā€.

The protesting students gathered in front of the administration of the Faculties of Economics and Agricultural Sciences to deliver a petition calling for the return of the students, to no avail. ā€œThe administration refused to accept the petition and said that the decision will not be reversed.ā€
