Egypt's Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources, Hossam Moghazy, disclosed on Saturday that the members of the Tripartite Commission of the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam will meet in Sudanese capital, Khartoum on Wednesday for two days to evaluate the technical and financial offers submitted by 4 international companies to implement the technical studies required to reduce the negative effects of the dam.
Egypt’s Minister noted that the signing of the contract with the winner of the international tender will be conducted in a celebration in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa after choosing of the Tripartite Commission for the Advisory Office within 10 days, according to the schedule agreed between the three Ministers
Egypt insists Ethiopia's hydroelectric scheme amounts to a violation of its historic rights, a breach of the 1959 colonial-era agreement that allocated almost three-fourths of the Nile waters to Egypt, and an existential threat to a country largely devoid of alternative freshwater sources.
Ethiopia maintains that Egypt and Sudan downstream have no reason to be fearful. The government says it's merely redressing the inequalities of previous water-sharing arrangements, which had left the nine upstream countries largely bereft of access to the Nile.
